Coolmist or Ultrasonic?
    #7315266 -

My experiences have been growing in a 80% RH environment using a 45gal tub with 1" polyfill holes around the sides of the tub. Ive tried using an ultrasonic but even turning it on for 1 minute every hour would leave the box dripping wet, even when i set a fan inside the box to blow the air around. Since then ive moved to a bit dryer climate and am not sure how to approach the humidity/FAE issue. Ive read a few threads on here that use coolmist for FAE and ultrasonic for humidity, one that modded the ultrasonic so that the mist would collect and fall back into it leaving just humidity to escape, and one that connected a coolmist -> ultrasonic -> growchamber for some reason, yet all of them used martha's which i believe are much larger growchambers.

What i have in mind is to add a few holes around the sides of the box with polyfill for Co2 to escape and retool the lid with saran wrap to allow for passive FAE and light (maybe i should use a clear showercurtain instead?). So how should i approach the humidity and active FAE for a 40-50gal container?

5 inches of damp perlite and fan it a few times a day

Drill a bunch of small holes in the sides,
and you don't even need to fan (see RogerRabbit's teks).

well ive always had bad luck with contamination and so im trying to avoid my casing having direct contact with the outside environment, so open holes, fanning, spraying and all that is out of the question.

And btw, where do you expect me to put perilite in a container setup? should i make minature planetary mobiles with it and hang them from the lid?

A coolmist provides a decent RH to most size grow chambers as well as some FAE if you pipe it in. I use a coolmist on 24/7 but with an ultrasonic fogger inside the coolmist on a timer for 5 min every hour. I have to give credit for that idea to HippieChick who always finds new ways around things.

Peace

Sealing things off won't help you avoid contamination.

The best way to avoid molds is to have constant fresh air exchange to your projects.

For a 40-50 gal setup I would recommend you follow RR's six sided shotgun approach. Thats the same thing roachman recommended to you.

How do you fit an ultrasonic fogger inside of a coolmist? are they really really small? or did you skip 8th grade grammar?
