Hello and welcome to the eighth official composition contest. My goal is to assist people in pushing their compositional skills farther along the path. Having a deadline is sometimes the perfect ingredient needed for creating an awesome sounding piece.

Rules and Contest guidelines:
*Contestants will be presented with a photo. They have 1 week to recored an original composition to express that photo by means of moving air molecules. (music) Any genre! (please keep it original.. no pulling out some old recording.)

*The little criteria for the actual composition is .MP3 file format and its recommend to keep the track shorter then 4 minutes.

*Submit your final MP3 to: xxxxIt must be in before the end of the day on the due date for it to be posted as a candidate for voting. (When you email me your track, please name it and let me know your USERNAME)

*The final vote will take place in a voting thread. Once I upload all the tracks I will set up a poll. A NOTE: The order which will be listed is solely based on who sends in their tracks first. If you get it done mid week.. send it in! The people voting might become a bit hasher hearing the 5th down the list. (try and be the 1st or 2nd on the list) Only the title of the tracks will be posted to make sure no bias is involved in the vote.

*The winner is picked on account of the number of votes they have at 10am (pacific time)of the day proclaimed the end. If there is a tie, we let votes go on for another 24 hours. The winner gets to pick the next picture. Common sense guidelines when picking photos. Keep it as different as possible then the last photo. (EX: Nature, the city, human face, abstract art, animals, any other kind of art, scenes... ect)

I won the last contest so this picture was picked by me. On my quest for a new picture, I came across this one. It looked like a fun one to write something to. Good luck everyone and have fun.

I'm sending mine now. I did it about a month ago, but when I saw the picture I was like "I have the perfect composition for that".

My favorites are weeping willows, which aren't really weeping at all. They're very wispy, witty and will dance in the breeze with you. Nothing like a tree that wants to dance with you. Although it doesn't like its thin limbs being pulled at all, it absolutely LOVES it when you walk through them, letting them gently slide over your face and shoulders. If you're naked, the willow considers it to be sex. It will orgasm on your mind and you will blow dream chunks into outer space. Don't mean to be an asshole or anything.. its just that I want everyone on the same level as they go into this. We all get 1 week to do our best at creating something new for the photo.

Yesterday, me and my roommate collaborated on this and came up with something pretty sweet.
I would write a bass line, he would put some percussion in and we went back and forth for about 30 minute intervals. Tonight I am going to edit it and make some last touches then send it in.

I hope this week we have more than 3 entries :crankey:

some of you guys need to start participating, as it stands only me, entityexperiment and toddo are the ones who submit songs almost every week.

It doesnt matter if you win, what matters that you created something. Even if you think what you have so far completely sucks ass, just send it in... the critiques that people give are quite constructive and helpful.

Toddo: one thing I was thinking about that might help is if the winner doesnt just pick one picture, but picks atleast 3, and then we take a poll for people to vote on which they would rather compose to.
1) from the one time I have won, I know that it is kind of hard deciding on just one picture....
2) I think it would get more people involved.

just something to think about next week.

I agree, choosing that picture was tough. This is such a cool thing to have going, im suprised we dont have more participants. Im sure more people would if the award was something material rather than picking the new picture and bragging rights :rolleyes:. there must be more creative people on here!

Yeah...  psilo had the idea of some sort of musical symbol next to the winner's name. (as a reward and a way of spreading the word about this contest.)  You guys are welcome to get the attention of ythan or others who might be able to handle this. 

And as far as getting people more involved, I don't think having them vote for a picture they like will help and I almost feel that would be kinda overload on threads each week.  We just need to spread the word and perhaps pursue that musical symbol idea.  Just my thoughts.  I'm down to try the voting for a picture if everyone else is up for that

And as far as this track  goes.. I've not even started.  :frown:  I've been working on band tracks and a game scoring project.  I'll get cracking on it! 

So lets discuss more ideas about getting the word out about this contest.  All members welcome to through in ideas.

This makes me wish I was back at home with my copy of FLStudio. No fancy rig, I program all the software by hand, which is a pretty excruciating procedure. Anyways, I'm 700 miles away from my workstation for another week, so I get to miss out. I look forward to hearing whatever gets picked for winner, and maybe some of the runner-up tracks.

Well.. After many failed, half hearted attempts, I have finished!  I'm quite happy with what came out.  Recording only took about an hour.  (I had been playing with the actual composition all week)  :smile:

Writers block is a bitch. I've been staring at FLstudio5 with a blank face for 8 days now. I think I'm a better writer than a musician, though. I just got done listening to some past entries and I can't come close to the talent.

Hey joe, just give it a go. It can be as simplistic as you want. Just experiment and see what comes out.

Everyone else, finish up! I'll be posting at midnight. (yes.. on time) Hit me up if you would like to request a little more time. I can put off posting until morning.. but you must ask me. remember guys, its better to turn something shitty in then nothing at all. The more people we have entering in this thing, the more attention/participation its going to get.
