Bought a stolen car?

So I just purchased a car but now that I think about it I'm starting to worry. The title was signed before the guy brought the car to me. He didn't have his drivers license but I got the license information of the girl he was with. If the title is signed over for sale, what kind of problems can I run into? He put it up on craigslist and gave his address, but when I met him to look at the car initially he met me at a gas station. But like I said, the title is signed and I have 2 written up "receipts", for what it's worth. Does anyone know about this kind of thing? I paid in cash.

i know you dont, but if it is stolen and the cops find out about it theyl take it from you, so you should be ready to turn in the guy so you can get your money back.....otherwise theyl just tell you too bad shouldnt have bought a stolen car

My neighbor ran it by (she's a cop) and said it wasn;t stolen. Since it isn't stolen is there anything else I need to worry about? My mom and dad say that's not the owner...

If you have a signed title, the car is yours. File the title now and you will legally own the car.

Even if someone steals your car, if you leave a signed title inside the car, the guy who stole it can legally transfer it into his name.

That's what I figured, but it's still sketchy. I came up with a lot of other theories too, such as he got the car cheap from a friend or someone he knew and was looking to make a quick buck, so he didn't put the title in his name and just left it with the lone signature on it so that way he didn't have to pay title tax (10% of what you paid for the car I believe). Perhaps it was involved in a crime? I don't want that on my conscience but I think I can live with it as long as it doesn't affect me getting screwed out big money.

By the way buckwheat it would be great if you could run it for me just in case as long as it's cool.
