I found a bunch of those on my college campus. They are not active, even though they kind of look like cubes. I would ditch them...

peace,
rafi

No, they're not good to eat. If you eat them you may get sick. I'm not sure what they are but I'm guessing that they're some kind of Agaricus or Lepiota. Not active either way.

At first glance they resemble Lepiota americana, which is a choice edible mushroom. There are things which cannot be verified from the photograph, so you should check for the following:

Open caps more than 3 inches across
Cap flesh white and thick, not staining immediately brown
Free white gills which may be tinted reddish
The ring on the stalk is bandlike and movable
Stalk with a bulbous base at least 1 inch thick
No volva
Spore print white

If it meets the characters above in additiion to what is visible in the photo, then fry them up for a delightful addition to a meal! If the spore print is greenish at all, then (as stated above) it is Chlorophyllum molybdites, a very nasty toxic mushroom responsible for many dozens of poisonings every year. Note that cap size is very important in Lepiotas. The ones with smaller caps include species which have killed people who have eaten them.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks Mr_Mushrooms,
The locals said it really makes you sick. The sporeprint is deep green.
Thanks for the help from everyone.
