Have been unemployed far to long-Updated
    #7230229 -

...I dropped off a resume to Locksmith company, that is looking to fill an entry level position, and ended up getting an interview when I dropped it off.

The guy really seemed to like me and I told him all the things he wanted to hear.  I also talked about how I've been really interested in locksmithing for quite awhile now and asked him a whole bunch of questions about the trade.

He seemed really impressed with me and we bullshitted for quite awhile.  He also liked the fact that I've lived in this town my entire life and want to stay here for the long run(with his company).

It was probably the best interview I've ever had.  He went on to tell me what days I'll be working if I get the job(tuesday-saturday), how much the pay is and even told me that since 1972, he's never laid a person off from work.  That was really good to hear.  If I do get this job, as long as I do well, I don't see myself going anywhere.

I think being a locksmith would be a cool career/trade.  I hope I get it....my EI runs out on monday.  He said he'd be calling me for sure on Monday.  "You really seem to be what we are looking for.  I'll be calling you for sure on Monday."

So they narrowed it down to 5 people and told me they were gonna get us to come in and fill out a questionare and then do another interview(this time with everyone, all his sons and wife, who work there).

So I showed up right when they opened this morning and I got through one question on this questionare and then the owner said they were moving a big safe today. So I told him I'd be glad to help if he wanted and I spent 4 hours with him and all his sons and the other employees moving this safe from in town.

After it was all said and done, I finished the questionare and went into his office. He said that he really goes by what the others think(hence, what the second interview was going to mainly be for) and basically let me know they all liked me. I made a good impression I'm sure. He then set me up to go down to a company that will subsidize with my EI(it basically allows him to pay me more, but costs him less because the governement/EI will help pay for my wages).

It's STILL not a for sure. I have an appointment to finish up with this EI subsidize thing at this company downtown on thursday, but I dunno.

I completely bombed this damn questionare and I'm worried that even though I got to get some quality time in with everyone, actually helping(and at the end of the day, I politely declined his offer to pay me), maybe my questionarre will make me questionable. I honestly bombed it to the max. Horrible grammar and horrible responses to questions like "tell me about yourself? what are your weaknesses?" and shit like that.

I made a GREAT impression in person with everyone, but feel I contradicted who I actually am on paper...just totally bombed it.

I really seemed that one of the sons and even the owner were implying I have the job, but maybe they will reconsider after reading my questionare?

You think I got this job?

I'll be so bummed out and feel worthless if I don't get this job AFTER given a chance to actually work with everyone, giving a good impression in the process.

some people are much better in person than on paper...i'm hoping they take there "in person" impressions into much more consideration over my "paper person"

I bet you got the job.

I think your attitude will take you farther than your grammar.

I'll give you one piece of advice though. Always have some kind of go-to answer for those typical interview questions (What are your weaknesses, etc.) in case you can't tailor one on the spot for that particular employer.

Good luck man

I really hope so man.

That's good advice.  I've come across it so much before and knowing I was going to be filling out a questionare, I'm an idiot for not expecting questions like that.

I didn't even know what to say.  Even in trying to tell a weakness, I'm sure I came across as arrogant.  I dunno, I'm embarssed to the nuts about that particular "what is one of your weaknesses?" questions.  I had no clue whatsoever...I don't know what they want to hear, so I said something along the lines of "I sometimes take my perfectionism overboard when it comes to working on a project.  I get much to hung up on the small things".  Actually, that was almost dead on to what I said.

WTF was I thinking? :suicide:  Like I'm looking back and feel like such a retard.  I could of just said "I get to hung up on the small things, when working on a project" or something.  Why the fuck is the word "perfectionism" there?  god, the more I think about it, the more I feel like a fucktard.

I've gotten every job I've had an interview for...every single one.  I NEVER say shit like that...like wtf?!  I haven't done this for awhile, but STILL.  Seriously, you can't tell me that wasn't bad.

when I mean I bombed this thing, it wasn't grammar alone.  My answers were horrible and some went off tangent from the question in ridiculous ways.  Not to mention my printing is horrible.  I haven't printed in years, for the most part

lol i wouldnt worry about the questionair thing too much. usually people who meet and interview you don't go by apllications/form questions.

you probably got the job anyway, that's why he asked you to help him. he was allready considering you for the job and just wanted a test drive. did you ask the others if they had to help him with anything?

if you made as good of an impression as you're saying, then you shouldn't worry too much about a weak questionnaire. congrats on nailing the interviews though, and good luck! locksmithing seems like it'd be rather interesting.

It was really by freak chance that happened. I was debating whether or not to show up right when they opened. I knew 4 others would be there that day to pick up the questionare, so I decided to just go early and be done with it.

It's not very often they pick up safes, so it was just by freak chance. I showed up when they were all going out and in passing, while I was sitting at the table starting the questionare, said something like, "Today would be the perfect day to put you to work. We are moving a damn heavy safe today." And I kind of just made a comment how I've worked for a moving company before and have moved safes before. "If you need a hand, I wouldn't mind at all to help". He didn't say anything for about 5 minutes and then out of nowhere(kind of made me jump), he's like "ok! So how about I pay you for 4 hours?"

I just got so lucky with the timing. I'm glad I showed up when I did. All his sons and the other employee were like "wtf?" when I showed up. lol I could tell they weren't expecting it.

But no, I didn't really ask his sons any questions like this.

Thanks for the good lucks guys, but I'm still slapping myself in the face for my retarded questionare.

To me, losing the job over a questionare, although a first, would be fine. But a few of them implying I have it, after getting to actually work with them for 4 hours, and THEN bombing it because of the questionare really would suck. I'm just beating myself up about this

I bet you're overestimating the importance of the questionnaire. It's just a formality. Actions speak louder than words.

I usually put "I work too hard" and "I'm a perfectionist"...which are both total bullshit.
