Got a job as a locksmith
#21792489 - 06/11/15 10:37 AM (8 years, 7 months ago) |

So i was delivering pizzas for a few months, but after recent life evaluation i decided to do something a bit more prestigious in the meantime.
I applied to a locksmith company and got the job. Ill be training on the job and then theyll send me out to do my thing.
Ive been picking locks since i was young(always had an interest in it) so this seemed like a pretty nice position to get into.
Are there any locksmiths/friends of locksmiths here who can share somw opinions on the profession?

Congratulations man! I have zero knowledge about the locksmith profession. Sound like fun though.

Hell yea.
Im very excited. I just hear it can be tough being on call 24/7 and that sometimes business can be mote than slow.
The cool thing about this place though is that when im on call im just chilling at home until i get a job. Sounds like ill finally have time to catchup on my tv shows.
Another cool part os that i make 30% comission and theres no set prices for jobs. For example if someone needs a new lock put in i can tell them 50 or 500. Whether they pay it or not is one thing, but the fact remains that i keep 30%

I was a legendary locksmith in china way back in 1500's in one of my past lives. It gave me fortune, I was making golden keys for the emperor.

I had to call a locksmith a couple months back when I locked myself out the house by accident. Cost me 100 bucks. The guy who came was kinda weird.. didn't talk much.. just ignored me when I tried to make small talk

I have also been picking locks and even have my own set of bump keys. I never thought about doing anything legal with it until now. This sounds like an incredible job. Will you be just out in the field doing services or actually installing locks as well? Whenever I have to get keys made the place I go to offers a free locksmith class.
I'd be stupid bot to give it a shot now that I think about it. Thank you for opening my eyes. Nothing beats a job when you're out in the field and not stuck in one spot. Plus it's cool as hell to be the lock picking guy in your group of friends. You could be undercover as a pizza delivery guy while doing break ins. You've got it made.

Ill be installing locks, rekeying them, picking house locks, and breaking into cars pwople were locked out of-the whole 9 yards. Hope that works out for you man, it seriously sounds like the best job i fan imagine. The bot being confined to one location aspect is probably the beat part, aside from bypassing security for a living
And yea, being the guy who can pick locks is badass. My first time it came in handy i was about 15 and and at yhe park with my buddy and a few chicks when one of them said she needed to take a leak. The park had bathrooms but were locked woth a standard 6 pin lock.
Popped out my kit and she was in within a minute.
Needless to say i got laid

What would happen if someone called you and was like "Oh no I locked myself out" You come and pick the lock, they pay you tip you and thank you so you think nothing of it and then they rob the house blind.
Now you contributed to the burglary right?

I dont think that criminal charges would me made, however i think id get some pretty heavy fines and probably lose my license.
Before any locks are picked you need to get proof of residence or ownership, but what happens when their ID is inside? I dont know.
Im sure ill be filled in more when i start

Yeah for sure, if a distressed middle aged white woman says her ID and purse are inside, you're not going to think twice about it, unless they make you wait until she gets it. I'm sure you just have to wait until they get it.
How do you prove ownership of a vehicle, outside of it? I don't carry around my title in my wallet, or my insurance card.

Couldn't you just do it and let them get their proof but if they fail to provide call the cops and tell them what happened and then stand guard over the area? I dunno there's gotta be a way around it..

That's what I was thinking. But you can avoid the car thing by saying "I must not have my insurance card with me" after rifling through the glovebox.

Hey bud, I am a seasoned locksmith, i like your story man. I hung my keys up in a place I dont normally hang them so that I wouldn't try to drive after going out drinking and when I got home I couldn't find them anywhere.. So I had to call a locksmith out and when he was there I asked him how he got into it as a profession and he offered me a job. One week of on the job training and the rest is history. Are you still doing it? How do ya like it?? Need any advice you hit me up personally.
