New York City
    #7223959 -

Times Square:

Yankees game:

Brooklyn Bridge:

Financial District:

Subway:

What a city. Even when walking around in the middle of the night you will see crowds of people everywhere. Every street you go down has stores and activity. It is just never-ending.

This city causes your wallet to hemorrage money. Before you know it you will have spent hundreds of dollars and you won't even realize what you got for it.

I have never seen so many people, so many tall buildings, so many stores selling weird things I've never heard of, so many restaurants, and so much commerce in my life. This city just oozes and pulses with life and sensory overload. Everything you could ever want resides on this island called Manhattan. It is like being in the center of the universe.

I think I might want to move there.

I would definitely move there, given the right oppurtunity.

Now THAT would be an adventure.  Having never been to Manhattan, I think you would love it there.  :smirk:  I defintely want to explore NYC.  It seems like the ultimate city experience.

One of the reasons that I didn't make it to the BBQ is because I was completely petrified of driving into the city by myself.  I'd have to park somewhere out of town and take transit in, I'm a pansy like that.  Toronto I can handle...but NYC is so legendary and ginormous and practically mythical to my Canadian brain.

But the summer isn't over yet.

New York is tight

almost everyone I know winds up working there

Most of them live in NJ still, right across the water in a town like Hoboken or something, while the lucky ones (better jobs?) live in the city

Great pictures--I like the bridge one a lot.
Next time you are in town, we should get some of the nyc shroomerites together and go for a ride on this amazing old wooden sailboat that leaves from the World Financial Center. It's like $50, but totally worth it and at least you aren't spending any money during the 2 hours you're on the boat.

On Friday's after work they do a happy hour sail with sailing plus open beer and wine bar for, I think, $45. It's a good deal.

It will be the best thing you ever do Randall. I did it when I was 23, and it was the greatest experience of my life. I moved back home with my dad after college, waited tables at night while working as a PA on a film to save up. Found some roommates, moved to Queens, and lived there for 5 beautiful years. I lived in Manhattan for the last 6 months and ran through too much money for my own good. I had a good time though. It will wear you down after awhile, especially adding to what JewUnit said about the small apartments. When I move back, I will make sure I can afford a nicer more comfortable space.

There is no place in this world I want to live. 2 years of saving some cash in Chicago, and I'll be back in the New York Groove. I fucking hope I can make it that long.

Did you take those pics? Those make me homesick like you have no idea.

Great pictures Randal - it was awesome having you here, come back on up anytime. My new apartment should be a more comfortable spot to crash, as well.

I have six classes left, and I'm finishing them this year. My only plans for afterwards are to either a) volunteer overseas somewhere, doing something (and hopefully write); or b) travel and find work doing something (and hopefully write); or c) move to new york and share a loft with shroomerites (and write).

Your plans sound a lot like my plans. Especially the parenthetical parts of the equation.

Well, I'll send you a list of overseas volunteering oppurtunites, I don't know if they are only for us canoodians, but they'd probably be helpful.

I was looking at JET only, really. I'm too attached to this city to leave. Maybe that means I should.
