Large Cake Jars

Has anyone tried using larger jars for the PF tek?
I didnt have any 1/2 pint jars around, so I just used larger ones... I think they are around 2 pint!
Its taking a long time to fully colonize. But it is growing.
Is there any problems with this method? Is there any advantages?
Also, what kind of a harvest can I expect from one cake (dry weight, in grams) on average, with an average amount of flushes?

Since they take longer to colonize they have a larger chance of becoming contaminated, stalling or drying out. Make sure to dunk them before the first flush.

Im fruiting a big horse poo cake...it was a casing...but i took it out of the pan and just threw it in. I just picked a 22.6 gram wet shroom off of it. The settings werent optimal, but the other was is pinning like crazy, so ill let you know how that goes. Of course, the fruits will probably be better than a BRF/Verm cake...

I used pint jars before and it took two months. They kept stalling out and i finally birthed them %90 colonized. It's worth it to go out and buy some 1/2 pint wide mouth jars even regular 1/2 pints(cakes harder to get out). 2 pint jars... summer is liable to be over before you give birth to those cakes!! 1/2 pints will be ready to birth at 2-3weeks

Yea I used pint jars last time for my eq's and they too took like a month to and they were only like 90% done too. That was with brf/verm though, not any grain.

I all so used pint jars for my first grow, they took a month to colonize but after they were birthed i got 3 nice flushes, same as i do with 1/2 pints, Time is the only differnce if your sterile.

I'm with rye now, but i tried some large cakes back when. Didn't work for me. stalled out and mycelium got that yellow goo it gets when really old. cake wasn't half colonized. may have been the strain, who knows.

Dang... The one large jar is about a week away from being fully colonized. But it seems to be slowing down. Should I perhaps give it some air? I dont have much to loose.
The one pint jars I did are coming along quickly. I think theyll turn out fine.

Yes, give it some air.. IF contaminating your cake is what you want to happen. Just leave it alone until it's fully colonized, and then give it another couple of days to make sure. Since you're using a large jar, its probably slowing down because of lost moisture. Patience is a virtue...
