Blockbuster Video
    #7189155 -

I've been looking for a job recently. Since don't have the experience, training or education to get anything too fancy right off the bat, I'm looking for a good company to work at for a while and work my way up.

I put in an online application for a management position two days ago and the manager called me in for an interview. I went in dressed all nice like I was actually getting some type of important job or something.

Everything was going well until the bastard said that management is only a part time position. He said they do it so they don't have to pay as much and can give less benefits.

I have never blown up in an interview...I'm not really sure if it's ever been done before either...Anyways, I got up in his face and told him look man,

*I have management experience

*I can work all day every day if I need to

* I'm willing to learn

*I'm not the type of worker that has to rush out the door just because the schedule says it's time to go home

*And most importantly, I'm not here for a job; I'm here for a career!
And in addition to that, What the hell is corporate Blockbuster thinking?! Management are the ones that run the business. Without them, they would be nothing! :kingcrankey: I told him that if he wouldn't heir me as a full time manager, he can take his job and shove it!

Before I left he told me to talk to my wife and make a decision weather I would take the part time position or not.

He called me just a minute ago and asked if I had gotten the chance to talk to my wife yet in this sad, pussy voice like he was begging.
He said that he mentioned a little of our conversation to the district manager and said she would like me to have a "sit down" with her tomorrow.

I have no fucking clue how this goes. I hope they make an exception and give me full time.  :crankey:

I worked at Blockbuster for about seven months, and it was a cool job to have when you have no ambition and were high most of the time. However as time went along the company higher-ups got more and more intense and started making more and more ridiculous demands and orders which totally turned me off and was partially why I quit that job. Also, the social structure my store completely disintegrated and I finally sobered up and realized I was working at Blockbuster... but yeah Blockbuster the Corporation sucks, Blockbuster the job is pretty alright if you don't mind being on the bottom of the totem pole.

Really, the corporation sucks? Damn
I know it sounds lame looking for a career in blockbuster but I'm looking for something to hook up with on a corporate level and I'm never going to get that if I don't start somewhere. Any suggestions?

Blockbuster definitely has a glass ceiling in terms of promotions. I worked in a store with people who were really decent at their job and who had been working for Blockbuster for anywhere from eight to thirteen years who basically couldn't make it above a certain level because they started at the store level. There were a few cool corporate people at Blockbuster. For instance the lady who's charge of all the stores in my state called my store once asking for my manager, I thought she was a friend of my manager so I proceeded to fuck with her by saying something like my manager had just gotten arrested or something retarded to which the lady suddenly when into an authoritative voice and got pissed at me. I felt really bad about that but later down the road we actually became pretty good friends and even went out for a beer. And even though I was in the lowest position possible in the company she actually begged me to stay with Blockbuster. I actually did really well with Blockbuster and met a lot of the higher-ups, I think they all liked me because I was one of the most liked grunts by customers and I had absolutely no ambition to move up in the company. Like I said a lot "I'm just working for beer money."

When I first started working for Blockbuster it was such a great job. Go in and hang out, talk about movies all day, and then go out and get drunk and high with co-workers. But as time went along Blockbuster kept implementing policies that drove us crazy. For instance you had to ask every single customer to join these reward programs or to buy a movie pass or what not. Didn't matter if you've seen that customer every day for a year and they always told you no. It made me feel really slimey and I usually refused to do it. Also all I ever heard about Blockbuster was how the corporation was losing money and all the higher ups were always freaked out by that. I don't know man, it's a cool job for say six months but I think you lucked out by not getting hired there as a career.

I'll keep that in mind man.
My other option is working at a beer plant loading trucks. It's probably a shitty job but it starts out at 15 an hour.

It's funny because my wife and I were talking earlier today and decided that blockbuster would be a shitty job. About an hour later he called asking if I had talked to her yet. I told him I'd call him if I was interested!
It seems like it's all going in my favor so I'm going to go to the interview tomorrow and see what I can suck out of them. If it's not good enough, beer trucks for me!
