Echoes, videogame equivalent of crack

This game is everything that asteroids should have been, needs to be played to be fully appreciated. Turn all of the settings up to max, crank the volume high and prepare yourself to go without blinking for the next ten minutes. I'm hopelessly addicted to this damn game right now. And it's free too.

The rules of the game are:
10: Shoot stuff
20: Die
30: Go to 10

You shoot apart asteroids with a rapid fire gun while flying around trying not to get hit, the game has various enemies and difficulties with increasingly difficult levels and medals for special certain in game achievements such as taking 100 hits and getting a set amount of points without moving.

Good Lord man, I know how you feel. I have GAME OVER tattooed on my right leg as an expression of my gaming habit. I'd say this game was lethally addictive and you're right, it would be better to do something more fulfilling with my life so I took up one or two hobbies to balance my outdoors with my indoors and I make sure that I have things to do so I don't play all day. It only has 10 levels and I only just got to level 10 today, besides you said you started today so as long as you have a plan to reach your target of a more fulfilling life then this game won't do you any damage. I wouldn't this to be a "gateway" game for you. How bad was your gaming habit?

I cant really judge how bad the habit is, but I play for about 3 hours a day on average, so I would say fairly bad. Thats why I need the change.

I have owned every major video game system since SNES and Genesis (plus all of the handhelds) excluding the playstation line.

I play most "blockbuster" games, as well as games that are innovative, or have a great style or story.

Its a full blown addiction.

Ive never gotten into mmorpg games or anything like that. Right now I play gears of war most nights. I have a full friends list on xbox live, and I have a group of "friends" from that list who I don't know personally, but it might be a little sad not talking to them ever again, even tho the friendship we have is entirely superficial.

Its important to me that I quit, and only play video games in social situations.

For now, I'm going to try this Echoes game, but I'm committing myself to uninstalling it by Tuesday.

How bad is your habit?

I used to play CSS like 10+ hours a day for a while. That, my friend, is addiction.

I'd say the shroomery could, yeah.

My gaming shifts a lot but it's at it's worst when I'm depressed, angry or upset. When I was younger I had a Mega Drive (Genesis) and whenever my parents fought they'd tell me to play it so I wouldn't hear them fighting. They fought an awful lot meaning I racked up a sickening amount of time on that thing and the trauma stuck, they split up eventually but I retained the association and on particularly bad sprees I can play for 12-18+ hours a day during depressive stages. I used to buy games compulsively, my game collection right now is quite large.

My g/f helps me from wasting away in front of my compy so recently I've been playing mindless shoot em up type games so I don't get too involved in them. I played MGS so much that to this day I can play the whole thing from start to finish in my head. I took up poi swinging and contact juggling which help as an aid to staying away from too much gaming by keeping my hands occupied. My biggest problem with games is that I could complete everything in them and feel great about it but it's not something I can display or talk about because from the outside it seems sad. I managed to turn gaming back from escapism into entertainment.

So it caps out at level 10?

I got there first try... but it was on easy. But there was a ton of crap flying around. Got a couple of the awards, was wishing I would have known to shoot the sun as it was zooming by shooting at me, haha.

What difficulty have you gotten to 10 on?

Easy, I got to like level 6 on hard and only by the skin of my teeth. Even on easy I'm not sure it's possible to actually finish level 10 but I'll keep trying. I love the way the screen shakes when you take out the XXL 'roids. Took me a little while to figure out how to beat the red ones but I find a mix of movement and right click functionality work well. Oh and you can only complete the game 100% by getting all the Zoots on the hard difficulty. This game owns. High scores and difficulties anyone?

Over 1.5 mill on both easy and medium. Dunno exactly, but I got that award.

The hardest change up to medium was the loss of weapon upgrade as you took damage. That really hurts at the higher levels, heh.

I got 2255550 on medium.
No matter what I do, at some point in level 10, the screen is completely full of enemies and in order to move i need to be holding the right mouse button. Then the sun or the trail of red things comes and kills me.

Yeah, freaking level 10 just starts popping things out quicker and quicker until there is no way you can possibly kill everything on the screen fast enough to live.

Yeah I managed to keep on level 10 for a good few minutes and since the rules are shoot stuff and die I'm pretty sure level 10 doesn't end.
