Anybody listen to Spiritualized?

My girlfriend's brother gave me 40 bucks last night, when he heard that I had never listened to the band. He said "I want you to go buy the two-disc set Live at Royal Albert Hall by the band Spiritualized. Then when you get a chance, I want you to take mushrooms, and as the mushrooms hit I want you to be on a rooftop, watching the sun rise over New York City, and I want you to listen to that two disc set."
This is a guy who has helped cultivate almost all my musical taste..so this hit home pretty hard. I'm going to go buy the CD later today.
Here is a review I dug up of Spiritualized:
As a founding member of the early-'90s psychedelic band Spacemen 3, Jason Pierce and bandmate Sonic Boom, a.k.a. Peter Kember, proudly proclaimed they were "taking drugs to make music to take drugs by." These days Sonic pretty much adheres to his original credo, but Pierce has blasted off on an entirely different trip. OK, Spiritualized's droning chords, sedated melodies, and atmospheric passages don't exactly discourage stoners from toking up, but their music is far too emotionally involving to be called drug rock. Not that it's complex, exactly. Many of the group's songs revolve around endlessly repeated two- and three-chord progressions. But what the group is able to express in these simple structures is breathtaking. Some songs splash and spiral like slow-motion Spin Art, some ascend like rising mist, and still others reach the heavens via gliding strings and gospel choirs. Spiritualized is hands-down one of the most captivating, mesmerizing live bands since early Pink Floyd.

Spiritualized: Hell the fuck yeah! I personally think it is better suited to opiates than shrooms, but in any event they are a top notch drug rock band. Your brother is wise, indeed. I think the scenario he described would be mind blowing. Live at Royal Albert Hall is a good one. Also worth checking out are Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating in Space (best break-up album ever) and Pure Phase. The most recent one (forget the title) is more like straight up rock/gospel. Not my favorite, but not horrible, just different that the earlier stuff. Last time I had to get a general anesthetic I listened to Pure Phase as it was kicking in: fucking brilliant.
Next time they play NYC (it's about time. It's been a few years) maybe I'll see you there!
Happy trails, SB

I actually saw them play at the Bowery Ballroom once, and don't remember it at all.

Either you are missing out or it was a really great show. I saw them in Boston a few years ago. Well worth the experience.

spiritualized is great! ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space is one of my favorite albums. pure phase, let it all come down, and royal albert hall are great too. amazing grace doesnt really do it for me.
i saw them twice and to be honest they sucked both times but apparently the quality of their live show varies greatly depending on whether j spaceman is on heroin or not. my friend saw them open for radiohead and said they blew radiohead off the stage. (not sure i believe it but...)
i uploaded the title track from ladies and gents here a while ago http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4803812#4803812 it was my wedding song.

Well I finally got around to listening to Live From Royal Albert Hall on Saturday, while tripping on the Brooklyn Bridge. It was amazing.
