Hey everyone,
I am pretty new to mushroom hunting, mainly because i live in a northern climate. Anyways are ther any active musrhoom species that live in Southern Ontario(near Ottawa)? All i want to know is the species and what season they come up around. I checked books at my local library and i coudn't find a single book about local mushroom species, all they had was mushrooms of the world kinda books....and it was a huge library too
Thanks ALOT for any help! Fd

On the home page of the Shroomery click on Grow/find. Then click on finding mushrooms. Then click on Mapping the Mycelial Network, find Ontario and there is a list of mushrooms growing around here. Then go to the search button and search for Ontario and search for Ottawa. There a few postings in the past of mushrooms found in our area. Then Look back a couple of weeks for a posting by StInvetroThomas about Panaeolus castaneifolius regarding the huge quantities he found in Ottawa last week and how good they were. They grow in lush very well cared for lawns with automatic sprinkler systems. Believe me after reading his posting I will be walking around looking at the beautiful lawns of the Insurance companies and fancy office buildings. Panaeolus subbalteatus grows here and was found last week in upstate New York. I am 99% sure I have it growing in my garden. It likes rotting hay and manurer and occasionally wood chips. I have been putting composted cattle manurer in the yard for years and I guess it just migrated here. It seems a bit late for Pan subs but we had a very wierd spring that was late and tons of rain. Good luck, and happy hunting.

Unfortunately we never got to hunt together. St Thomas
