I have found both a number of times, and have eaten both. I can tell you for a fact that neither of them are active. Books have been calling these two species active for a while now, it's a common misconception.

Edit: Also, if you want pics or first had experience help with foes, copriphila or Pann subbs just give me a holler.

That's right. Pan. cyan=cope=blue meanie  If you wanna know why they're called blue meanies, go in the other thread and click on ts727's gallery. :stoned:

I don't recall seeing any finds north of the Fl. line. They are found all along the gulf coast.
We get pretty tropical here, though. :mushroom2:

Psilocybe weilii range map:

Please people, let me know if any counties need to be added to the above map.

> you don't find foes or copriphila to be active? Have you eaten them??

Yes and no, though I only ate a couple foes and it wouldn't be enough to trip even if they were active. Someone ate 300 foes and got diarrhea, and many people have eaten Psilocybe coprophila and can confirm that it is inactive.

Maybe it would be a good idea to eat foes before bed for the tryptophan and 5-htp.

Might also be a bad idea.

2 qustions

1) why is the range of weilii so limited, it could'nt POSSIBLY occur in southern north carolina or south carolina? Do you think I should include it in my guide??

2) You said Foes contain tryptophan and 5-htp...What are those chemicals? what do they do? can they have any negitive effects?

It is a guide to the south and I very much need help, I want to make the BEST guide possible so i can post it up for all my southern hunters...
I've been working on it for a few months using info from the net, but what i really need is knowledge from the field, people who actually hunt in these areas.
So please, please, please If you've hunted in the Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia please help.
Everybody knows we got cubes at the coast, we don't really need that info. I'm interested in the finds from the mountains, foothills and piedmont of these states.
P.S.- If you've been getting lucky in Kentucky, you can post too, everyone just make sure and tell me what state your in.

Excellent question. I don't know the answer, but some people have speculated that it only likes a certain type of soil which contains a lot of red clay.

It should be included in your guide if your guide includes Georgia. No one has reported finding them outside the state.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5-HTP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tryptophan

Those chemicals aren't known to cause negative effects. There might be other chemicals in Pan foes that cause negative effects, which could explain the diarrhea that some people report at high doses. But that could also be caused by eating a whole bunch of raw mushrooms/dirt/bugs/etc.
