IRAN: WOMAN 'TO BE STONED' ON THURSDAY



Tehran, 20 June (AKI) - Makrameh Ebrahimi on Thursday will be stoned to death in a square in front of the cemetery of Takestan, in Ghazvin province some 100 km from Tehran, for having had a child out of wedlock 11 years ago, women's rights groups in Iran said. The Islamic Republic denies issuing stoning death sentences and carrying them out. Thursday's is the first death sentence by stoning to be publicly announced and rights groups say the population has been invited to participate and throw stones.

It is reportedly unclear how many stoning sentences have been issued and carried out in Iran since reports of a moratorium by the judiciary emerged in 2002.

The Iranian criminal code states that when stoning is carried out for offences such as adultery the stones should not be too large because "the punishment of stoning is designed to cause the victim great pain before death".

In Iran, the convicted person to be killed is wrapped in a sheet and partly buried. Male convicts are buried from the waist down, while women are buried deeper to prevent the breasts from becoming exposed.

Iran is second in a global ranking of countries with the highest number of executions per year after China.

Article 104 of the Iranian Penal Code states that the stones used for execution should "not be large enough to kill the person by one or two strikes, nor should they be so small that they could not be defined as stones."

The only way Iran can change is from within, if Iran wants to remain in the stoneage and then think they can run with the bomb boys cause they have atomic weapons they are gravely mistaken.

They see Iraq and the situation its in and they dont want to be next, and nuclear weapons are a deterrant, trusting a leader in Iran who has a quasi-god complex and calls to whipe israel off the map is a danger not only to israeli and american interests, but possibly to GCO (Gulf Cooperation Organization), and Iran has been stirring shit in the mid-east since 1979, financing shiite paramilitaries, and even training PIRA militants in the late 80's.

The simultaneous destabilization of secular arab governments by Al Qaeda and Shiite Safawism will spell the downfall of a few secular arab nations, and break down into afiefdoms ruled by tribal chieftians, their ethnicities, and the paramilitaries who do the dirty work.

Ill bet that they let children throw stones.

We should send in a team to save the girl. Swoop in with blackhawks and tear gass and take her away and when IRAN gets all pissed off we just laugh at them. Just like they laugh at us. Im all for being a bully to countries that would burry a person in the ground and let its citizens throw stones at that person till they died.

You've gotta be kidding me, Seuss. It's one thing to not judge a persons culture when it involves running around naked in the jungle, as this sort of behavior is generally harmless. There is behavior, regardless of the culture in which it exists, that should be condemned and judged as harshly as one can.

Who are you to judge? A rational, free, fellow human. Every human has the right to make judgments.

Why should culture, of all the aspects of humanity, somehow be free from judgment? Everything should be subject to judgment by every individual.

A discerning, empathetic human being with a sense of individual dignity that first evolved over 100,000 years ago but has somehow been devolved in certain (un)cultures.
