Pedro flowering

I have several San Pedros that are about 3' tall. I would like to see them flower at some point. What time of year do they usually flower? Will they flower if they are kept indoors several months a year, or do they have to be outdoors in desert conditions year round? How old do the plants have to be to flower? Any info would be appreciated.

i have a pedro wich is 8 years old, it never flowered....
in fact i never saw a pedro in a pot flowering..only when they were planted directly on the ground....perhaps pedro's needs large space for the roots to flower

well since i moved to the sw desert from lancaster ( i am sure you know where that is!) i have one on my front porch and it flowered in the early spring. maybe it needs the desert conditions??

I've had 2 different San Pedros, both living in pots and both bloomed. The flowers opened up at night, so you might miss them if you're not paying attention.

Where abouts do you live? In a hot climate or temperate? I live in the Northeast US, so my plants can only be outside about 6-7 months a year.

I live in Southern California. However, many cacti do just fine in extreme climates, it often snows in the deserts out here in the west (I don't know how humidity affects them though). As a matter of fact, it's my understanding that they evolved in the Andes Mountains and spread from there. There are no old world cacti. It may be (?) more important to protect your cactus from excess precipitation.

if you want it to flower leave it outside in the summer if you live in the heat. cacti love their native environments.

evolving is right, the easiest way to mess up your cactus is to over water. remember that they can survive a long ass time without any water.

According to the guy at my local nursery, unless your pedro is outside with very regular hours of sun, seasons, rain etc. then they will not flower. They still grow well and produce good stuff indoors but no blooms. HNope it helps. Chemkid
