No those are not any good. Do not eat them. You need to be looking on cow manure in pastures. The only thing that is active will grow on cow shit. Except for Aminita Muscaria and I know nothing about them.

I do not know how far south you live in Texas. You might be too far south to find actives.

oh well thanks for replying

me and my buddy are debating on goin to the cow pasture right now.  it just is kinda sketch due to it being a farmers property and the voyage there through mad fuckin mud.  and its raining.  but i doubt the farmer would be out atm due to the shitty weather....time to hunt?

and no i know for a fact im not too far south to find shrooms.  im in houston too g

alright so we went and checked out the field. since its only not been raining for around an hour it was fucking soaking, and we had to walk through a marsh type area to leave my town and venture into the pasture. alot of mushrooms were just starting to poke their heads up. theres like like white dot(can tell their mushrooms) and some are about 3 cm high so far. were hittin there again possibly around 2:30 or maybe around ten again. daytime is sketch. i just dont wann miss all the god pickings incase some other people peep our spot. where are houston u at? im in the woodlands

theres mad cow patties there, and all the cows just chill there. any tips on how to stay safe around cows? they trip me out pretty hard. im just tryin not to spook them

Gymnopilus species, and Panaeolus subbalteatus are non shit loving shrooms. Well Panaeolus subbalteatus is commonly found on horse dung rarely on cow dung, but it also grows in well fertilized grass and compost piles. Gymnopilus grow directly off from wood. They all grow in texas so the statement "The only thing that is active will grow on cow shit." is false. They recommendation to look on cow shit is a good one for texas although since this will most likely be the best place to hunt, but dung loving mushrooms are not the only option and are not the only active mushrooms.

And just because its growing from cow shit doesn't mean its active so post the pictures here first before you eat it

You do not have any actives bro. Stick to Cow dung and look for golden caps and white stems. The stems should have a veil or rings around them just below the cap (if it is opened). Also, you can't miss the blue bruising. Post your finds and happy hunting fellow texan!!!

This specimen was found in the Houston area last year.

Look for this color:

Blueish Purple Veil where the spores are dropped on:

And blue/green stem where you cut it:

Good luck fellow Houstonian hunter!

nice, thanks man. now ill have an iea of what to look for. the shrooms that were just starting to poke their  head through last night were lighter looking though.  almost pure white.  and will the shrooms die if i wait till tonight to go hunting?

and thank you for the pictures.  ive seen people with shrooms in my town that were skinnier though, any idea what these are?  they said they grew in cow shit

and cant you just rip the shrooms out? i dont think ima be bringing scissors on my journey through marsh and other shit+ hopping a barbedwire fence(i see one in the background of your pictures )

Well they can be bigger and smaller, different shapes and colors just look for the golden caps and be sure to post your finds here.. You can pull them out but some people prefer cutting them because it doesn't disturb the mycelium (grow system) so more might grow from the same patty. The golden Cubensis mushroom is the common one your looking for. Good luck! Oh and i would try looking especially sense you saw some mushrooms pinning, you can only find out if there alive or dead if you look good luck again!
