Take the MSF

Get something under 500, either a 250 dual sport (for in the city riding) or a 500 if you need to hit the highways.

Looks like you're aiming at sport bikes, just get something at 500 and ride it for a year before trading up.

And get quality gear, it's the only thing that protects you if you slide and you need all the protecting you can get. Don't skimp on a helmet either. Pay in what you want to get out of it. cash spent on gear and your first bike should be around that same price as one another.

One last piece of advice.... DON'T BUY NEW. It's very likely you're going to lay down or drop your first bike as you learn and doing so with a new bike is infuriating, especially with sport bikes with $300 fairings to replace and a broken mirror and clutch lever because you parked in the sun and it tipped while you were off nailing all the chicks chicks you impress (a pass-time of bikers when they are not riding) :wink:

did you guys read the follow up post? =) i've got a couple jackets and a sick helmet and awesome gloves my chick got me...boots too.

Colbadol, cool project! i love tearing shit apart and i've seen some sweet street fighters running around. keep us updated on that.
