So i have a pair of Bose Triport Headphones. One day i was over at my friends, got out of my car, and the door slammed on the cord, making one entire speaker soundless. So i tried splicing the wires and reattatching them with electrical tape. Now both have no sound.

Does anyone know if it's a special type of cording that makes it impossible to transmit information if it's severed? They did have a peice of cloth like material running through the very center, but i thought that was suppose to be for stress support, so they can withstand being pulled on.

I just don't want to pay another 150 dollars if they can be repaired :cool: Thanks guys

That little fabric you see is not electrically conductive. It is a fiber that is added to keep the cord strong because the wires are so thin. Double check that splice. Make sure your wires are touching each other.

Oh yeah, they're touching. I did a very fine job with a razor and a lot of time. It's not fiber optics, but is that a case where if you splice the continuous cord it won't work?

I cant really help you with your wire predicament.

But if you do end up buying new headphones, you can probably find some with the same if not better quality for a little cheaper.

Look up some Sennheisers or Shure E2C are supposed to be pretty good headphones.

Just a suggestion if you decide to get new ones. I <3 my Sennheiser

Get the cable in as well as you can so it looks presentable, buy the same pair of headphones and swap them out. Take it back and BAM! New headphones.

i cant speak for Hrethic on this one but from my experiences with headphones and stereos, theirs just no beating Bose. The only thing I've heard that comes close to matching Bose quality is the Concert Sound 2 system that came with my Buick Regal.

maybe you should recheck your work. Depending on the wire, there are multiple scenarios I can think of as to why they will not work.

wires, especially speaker wire, uses shielding wire, to "absorb" RF interference and whatnot, and often is doubled as the ground.
Look at the end that plugs in, does it have three distinct parts? like a tip, ring and sleeve?
If so, it is TRS or TRS mini-pin and you must keep in tact the seperate wires, because they act as a left feed and a right feed with the ground/shielding going to the sleeve.
Your best bet would be to cut the wire to the severed point and re-attach your TRS cable, and resolder if you got da skillz.

Well go ahead and tell me the reasons you think it won't work. I'm not quite sure what you mean about the tip, i looked at them and the new sony ones i got, and i can't really tell.

And with the sheilding, it'd be like the center peice is the cotton-like stuff, and then around that is the normal wire, and then the sheilding wire?
