Headphones?

I'm looking into getting a quality pair of headphones. The BOSE QuietComfort2's seem like they might provide the best quality, though $300 is a bit steep. I'm not opposed to shelling out the cash for quality, because we all know you only get what you pay for. However, there are another pair that BOSE makes that are called the TriPort's, and those are only $150.
I'm wondering if anyone has used either of these products, and what they think? Or if you could suggest headphones of similar quality?
Thanks

All my recent headphone purchases have been Sennheiser, and I've been more than happy.

I have the Bose QuietComfort headsets and I would gladly shell out 300 bucks for them again if I had to. The sound quality is amazing and allows you to really pick out subtle nuances in the music that you cannot usually hear.

Sony v900's are great, very comfortable and not over based like the 700's. I use them in my studio and sometimes bring them on trips with me. I believe you can get them for 120-140. VERY worth it. Had mine for 2 years. They have been used almost every day since then and still look, sound, and feel brand new.

sennheiser HD-25 or the HD-25 SP all the way. The HD-25 does a better job at blocking outside noise. I use the SP's to spin records. Great sound quality, i love me sennheiser equipment.

Dont get Sennheiser, you pay for the name, and the sound in my opinion lacks detail. For 150 you can get a pair of Grado sr-125's which are far superior to ANY Sennheiser. If you want up a step, check out the Grado sr225's, but in my opinion the sound of the 125's are a bit better. Most people havent heard of this company, but do some research into headphones, and you will know them.

Ultrasone has some really great head phones for listining. I Used to have a pair of HFI-700's and they were great.
http://www.djdeals.com/ultrasoneHFI700.htm
But right now Im using pioneer HDJ-1000's for mixing which I gota say are great. They are light weight and great sound.

But if you were a true Audiophile you would buy these.

thats what my brother uses.. they hurt my ears after wearing them for to long.. and are to bassey. The 900's are about 10X more comfortable and don't let bass overwhelm the track.

WTF? Those headphones are retarded. It's a very nice presentation and all, but notice that no where on that page does it have the spec.'s for the headphones, and it doesn't really say much about the quality of the sound produced.
But they go on and on about the mirrored finish and the cherrywood case.

I haven't ever worn a pair of 900's, but they seem great. I have no complaints with the 700's, though. They're extremely durable, and sound great, IMO.

I guess it depends what kind of sound you like. The Sony's sound sounds very artificial to me, with fake sounding bass. The Sennheisers have an artifially large soundstage, so it sounds as if you are sitting in the middle or back of a concert. The Grados sound as if you are up closer, I guess its all a matter of preference. I like the grados, being able to hear strings being plucked, and really bright highs, well defined bass. The Sennheisers always struck me as just lacking detail, even up to their most expensive model.

Definatly not BOSE. 'Better Off with Something Else'
Sennheiser is my personal choice. BeyerDynamic DT770's are also extremly nice headsphones.
I'd put grado's last on my list. But I've only heard their lower end headgear.

the MDR 700's are nice, but they have a FATAL flaw in them. The joint used in folding the headphones up and down and moving the ear cup is PLASTIC. Id have to replace my MDR's at least once a year because the damn hinge cracked which renders the headphones almost useless (its not cool to have plastic jamming into the side of your head while the cup doesnt sit on your ears). There are ways to fix it, but it still doesnt mask the fact that sony's are cheap garbage and WILL break on you at some point.
Plus if you're not a dj those cans are heavy as fuck! I wouldnt want to be using them to listen to music to as i walked around campus. Sony's next model up (which is/was used by almost all recording studio professionals, is a much better choice to go with if you're looking at sony.
Here's why i think sennheiser is > then all. EVERY SINGLE PART IS REPLACABLE. So, if your dog eats your cord you can buy a new one and install it, if an earcup blows you can buy a new one, headband breaks buy a new one! This way you're not speding 150-300 dollars on a new set if you break them.

I frequent a forum called Head-Fi which is all about headphones. I saw a thread just yesterday about which headphones to get other than bose. The Official Bose Triport Alternative Thread.
What are you going to be using your headphones for? Are you using them from a portable player? If so you need a can that is easy to drive. What kind of music do you listen to? Grados are awesome for rock but don't have the deep bass needed for rap or electronica. Do you care if others can hear your music? There are both open and closed designs. Right now I have my eyes on the Sennheiser HD-555. Great all around can which is easy to drive for around $120. The Beyerdynamic dt-770 is my current favorite though. They sound fantastic and have plenty of bass for electronica. The only Sony's worth anything are the V6. The DJ models have too much bass that is bloated anyway.
Just visit Head-fi and there are PLENTY of threads to answer your questions.
Headroom is a great place to buy cans and their site is helpful.

My roomate has some HD-590's, or I think thats the model number, and Im just not impressed. The Grados DO indeed have some good bass, its all about the pads you get for your ears. If you frequent that forum, you should have read a post all about the different pads for grado's. The ones I use are good for rock, classical and jazz as thats what I listen to. Thats not to say the bass for rap still doesnt kick.

I know about the bowls, comfies, modded comfies, and the flat pads. Grados still don't have the bass that is needed for electronica. My grados sound awesome for guitars and such but they sound nowhere near as good as my senns and the Beyers completely blow them out of the water when listening to electronica.

I guess Id agree the Beyers have some strong bass, but the Senn's just really dont impress me. I find the bass to be really good at jazz bass solo's and stuff, I guess I just dont really listen to the sort of generic loud bass sound stuff. What kind of grados do you have?

I have the Alessandro MS-1s. Grado teamed up with Alessandro and made their own version that compares to the sr-125 for $99 shipped. Here is a thread about them.
