Default font in MS Word.
    #6969330 -

Please do not make a response unless it is relevant?

I am wondering; Each time I start Word it is set to: "Times new roman" which REALLY REALLY REALLY suck infested balls...

There are so many signs not supported by other programs, and other SHIT! ...

Please tell me how to change that fucker?

I hate "Times new roman" ...

I REALLY hate it!

(That 'hate' was just supposed to be bold, but all the buttons icons are always changed here, so I just have to guess... And as you might see, I did not get it right before the third go, and I am not about to delete the shit.)

I am not angry, BTW, just frustrated. I like this forum, and it is no fun when it is like this. :frown: (I have installed new version of Browser, several times, but the computer just freeze up.)

Umm... there's a little menu that says Fonts and you can actually use it to change your font. True story.

Or upgrade to MS Word 2007.  The new layout takes a little getting used to but it's a lot faster to use than previous versions.  The default font is also a lot nicer too.  It has a rounder, more modern look to it.

I haven't used Word in a while but the default template is called Normal.dot... make any changes to that file (like the font selection) and they'll be reflected in all new document.

And NewbieShroomie is right about the fonts from Word 2007 / Vista, they're very nice (especially if you have an LCD with Cleartype enabled). I uploaded a torrent a while ago: Microsoft ClearType Fonts (optimized for LCDs)

I'm working with MS word 2007 for the first time right now and the layout sure feels unusual. I'm used to working with programs like adobe pagemaker, quark express....the word can do the job but is a lot more complicated to use. (for me at least)

Maybe if you don't have an LCD. But that's not Cleartype in your Word screenshot. You can clearly see there's no subpixel antialiasing. This is what Cleartype looks like when you zoom in (note the colors which correspond with subpixel placement).

What does an LCD have to do with anything? I have a cathode ray Sony monitor with a flat glass screen. I don't like anti-aliasing--it makes things look too fuzzy.

http://www.grc.com/cleartype.htm has a very good explanation. On an LCD, one pixel of video data is directly represented by one pixel on the screen, with exactly three subpixels (red green and blue) in a certain order. That's why LCDs have a native resolution. On a CRT, one pixel of video data may be represented by an arbitrary arrangement of red green and blue phosphors, depending on the configured resolution and display technology (eg aperture grille vs. shadow mask). Thus on a CRT, color conveys no spacial data and can't be used to assist with antialiasing.

Thanks for showing your lack of understandability!
I asked for a permanent change, ...

That is what I am using.

But again, the default font in Word on my computer is 'Times new roman' ...

I want the default to be anything but that crappy shit head font. (The font is actually better than all else, but not all programs has support for it yet.)

I am tired of getting "square boxes" when ever I paste something written in Word...

How would I do that?

(Never mind if it is complicated, I am a simple guy. )

No just find Normal.dot and open it in Word, it'll be a blank document. Change the font from Times New Roman, and save without making any other changes. Normal.dot is the default template so you can make changes to that file and they'll carry over to new documents.

In Word 2003, here is how you change the default font:

Open a new document, right click in it. Click "Font..." Change the font to one you'd like. Click the "Default..." button in the lower left hand corner of that window. Message will pop up. Click yes. Tada, done.

On your toolbar, just click on the font button (right by where it says "Times New Roman) and you can change the font there.

Sorry but Gastronomicus already won the award for poor reading comprehension, I think you'll have to share it with him.

Well, I've used computers with LCDs that use Cleartype and even Cleartype falls under the category of "fuzzy" in my book :frown:
