amsterdam alone

I'm considering saving up my allowance from the Job Centre(probably impossible) and going to Dam for a few days by myself.

I went myself last year and stayed at a campsite with my tent but I got really bored and I never even went out at night since I knew it wasn't safe (i got someone trying to mug me out in the street during the day!)I went to sleep as soon as the sun was down, sometimes before!!! that sucked...

So I basically went into the centre of city, went to a few coffee shops and took my weed back to my tent and got stoned all day.

It was quite sad really..

I want to do something better this year..

anyone got good Amsterdam tips for a lone traveller?
Is it possible to enjoy the nightlife safely alone?

Just book a cheap hostel far in advance. Don't do it half-assed. :shrug:

Yeah, I went with my bro back in summer 2004 and we stayed in a cheap hostel at Vondel Park, but the problem with that is you have to share a room with a stranger if you want a cheap room, luckily the guy with us was cool and our age but you could get creeps.....

Its so much more fun with other people. Go with someone if you possibly can.

Read up on hostels, there are so many resources for reading hostel reviews if you go online....I would suggest going with someone if I were you but if you want to go alone just have your wits about you and go to a hostel in a safe area that has a locker where you can put your stuff and what not.

I travelled all around Europe alone for 31 days this past summer. I stayed in hostels everywhere I went, usually in a room with 3 or 4 other people. You meet a lot of interesting folks.

the great thing is that I can get a return flight for £30!!!
