Some of them, yes.  The ones not in prime areas.  There is more money to be made in DVD's now.  Have you noticed that movies don't stay in the theatres as long as they used to?  I put off seeing Grindhouse a month, and it was gone.  Pissed.  :mad2:

There used to be several cinemas in my town. Then Forum Cinemas built this big "Coca-Cola Plaza" and all the other cinemas were knocked out of business for a while. Now one of them has been reopened as a part of the Forum Cinemas and all the movies they show seem to be selected especially for the stoner community, including many movies that have been showed in the CCP. It's my choice of cinema - the tickets cost only $2 and it's never over crowded. The experience is always pleaser than in CCP.
Recently one other cinema was opened as well and it specializes on showing award winning festival movies. So an cinema for more intellectual community with prizes as low as $3-$5.
In the CCP the prizes start from $5 and go up to $20.

Its coming up on 2 years since I went to a movie theater.  I had grown disgusted with the whole experience of over paying to see some film I might not like while putting up with some ignorant/rude asshole sitting behind me.

I wait for everything to come to video now and I'm much happier to sit at home and watch it on my big screen.  The last thing I saw in theaters was 'The Brothers Grimm'.  That particular movie had nothing to do with my decision to stop going to theaters, it was just the last one.  I only tell you so you can get a time frame of how long its been.

I would still like to see some of the bigger, special-effects laden blockbusters on the big screen.  Like the new "Pirates" that starts tonight might be good.  But I'd probably just end up pissed off at all the other idiots in the theater and ruin the experience for myself.

Some movies are just so much better in the theatre.  Plain and simple.  I'm pissed that I couldn't see Grindhouse with the theatre experience because that was half the fun I take it.

I saw TMNT at the movies, which I am sure is much more fun than on a big screen tv.  But I agree, sometimes the people you deal with there are ignorant, rude idiots.  I'm from New York.  I just tell them to shut up if someone's talking.  It gets a different response out here in the Midwest. :grin:

A new movie theatre just opened by my side of town. It's brand new and a little different from the rest in reno. It's about a dollar 50 more in admission, but it's a very nice theatre with good chairs and stuff.

used to be that if you went to a "chain" theatre, say a Cineplex odeon , or a Lowes (im in NYC) you could expect a standard. I went to an AMC on 42nd street, and the chairs were all ripped up, and rocking (since there were relciner like) and the screen had spots on it dead middle, and the place had a funk like wet towels.
The admission was $11.00, and it was practically empty when I went. (on a saturday afternoon) I guess they are pricing out most of the ppl with low wage jobs. I have a low wage job, but will spend for a movie because ihave a saving account. I saw grindhouse 2x, within 1 month. It was gone inside of 5 weeks. I was shocked.
someone else mentioned it - there is money to be made on double disk DVD editions I guess. but there is nothing that compares to watching a film that is projected. No, matter how many extras the dvd includes.
