I may have broken my ankle.

I was walking down the stairs today at my house, and my sandal got caught and twisted weird on the last stair.  My foot rolled completely over itself.  I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but this hurt so bad that I thought i was going to black out, and I felt like I was going to vomit.  I screamed for my fiance, who came running and helped me to the couch.  We got ice on it right away, and I've stayed off of it all day, kept it elevated with an ace bandage on it. Wekk, I just took the bandage off, and my foot is a fucking mess.  There is a big bruise on it and it's all fucking swollen.  I really hope it isn't broken, I don't want to be in a cast for the summer :frown:  If it still hurts this badly tomorrow I'm going to go get xrays taken.  Blah.

Doctors are for pussies....or people that can afford them. :frown:

I turned my ankle last april. Its been a year and its still almost twice as big as my other.

A year, and it's still that swollen? You're crazy for not going to the Doctor by now.

I'm definitely not a pussy - like I said, I have a pretty high pain threshhold, but I'm not about to fuck around with my ankle. If there's something seriously messed up with it, it needs to get fixed so that I'm not having issues walking later in life.

I have health insurance, so I'm not worried about having to pay for it with cash or anything - but even if I didn't, I'd still go to the Doctors when it's something like this.

Yeah - I hope so, even though bad sprains can hurt worse than breaks sometimes :shrug:  I just don't want to have to be in a cast.  I'm too busy to have to deal with that crap.  I'm going to be very careful about staying off it completely for the next couple of days and hope it feels better soon :frown:

That sucks. From experience tomorrow and the next day it will feel much much worse than it does now. But then it get's better. I would take some fungus and enjoy the down time.

As long as you're sure you don't have a broken bone just keep it wrapped really tight and you switch between heating pads and ice to take the swelling down. From what I've experienced sprains are more painful than breaks.

Yeah, I'm going to have it checked out tomorrow if it still hurts this much.  I'll probably try to get a set of crutches so that I can keep off it completely, without hopping around my house like an idiot :lol: I've never been in a cast before, but I would imagine that it's really uncomfortable, so hopefully I won't need one.  I've broken bones before, but never anything that could be cast (nose, heel, elbow)

If it is broken/sprained really badly and you need a cast depending on exactly what part of your ankle is hurt you might be able to get a walking cast. Just ask for two and pretend you are robocop or something, people won't think you are crazy unless you make the sound effects out loud and not just in your head :grin:

i broke my foot last year and i insisted that it was sprained for almost two weeks. I gave up when i couldn't put my shoe on without laces. Went to the doc and said yeah you snaped your foot.

Ouch.  Mine isn't any more swollen today than it was yesterday, but it definitely hurts more :frown:  I'm going to go to the Dr. today when Pete gets home from school, since I can't drive right now (it's my rigth foot, of course.) :frown:

I wouldnt say it is still swollen. I think it just healed weird. Its kind of like I have two ankles although one of them isnt bone. It doesnt hurt all the time and when it does hurt it is just like an ache rather than sharp pain.

I was also going to Mexico last summer and I figured the doctor would only tell me to have surgery or do nothing.
