rolled my ankle

how can you tell if its sprained? is that just like pain but can still walk? thats what i got.

I thought I just sprained my ankle, but I actually broke my fibula bone.


You should check it out of pain/swelling persists.

Not necessarily that the bone is loose, could just be that the tendons are stretched.

Well, when I broke my fibula I could still walk and the bones felt 'loose'.


It was just a small fracture and I got a lot of Vicodin.

In the meantime wear an ankle brace to avoid further damage.

Also take ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen (Aleve) and use and ice pack to reduce the swelling.

meatcakeman: what'd you do to fracture your fibia? I'm kinda thinking I might have done that on Friday night. I decided to slide down the entire handrail at a subway station and fell of at the last 4 steps and busted my ass. I have this one spot on the outside of my ankle that hurts like hell but isn't bruised.

I always tell people the same thing. Why ask on here when you can call up your local nurse hot line for FREE and they actually know what they are talking about and what questions to ask.

I was at soccer practice fucking around with the ball. I miscalculated my foot placement and stepped onto the ball with my left foot. It promptly rolled to the side, causing my foot to face inward, subsequently snapping my fibula in half. I didn't know anything broke. I could still walk, and I was laughing it off. :shrug:

I broke my ankle doing similar stupid stuff in karate as a kid. I knew it was broken then though. I couldn't stop screaming and crying. I'm wondering if I might have fractured or chipped my ankle the other night though... Those steel capped concrete stairs aren't friendly to roll down.

Do you have swelling? How badly does it hurt?

Touch it and feel around the area where it hurts. Can you feel any noticeable fractures?

You shouldn't overlook it. Without proper and prompt treatment, it might heal improperly.

It's swelling a little bit, but not too bad as far as I can tell. I'm laying in bed now and I can feel a burst of pain every time my heart beats. Can't feel anything because it hurts too much to touch it. Perhaps I'll have that looked at when I go to the doctor for the flu tomorrow.

Sucks that I'm not made out of rubber anymore like I was as a kid.

from skateboarding, i have rolled each ankle about 20 times each. beleive it or not.

Antiinflammatorys like Advil and Tylenol help.
Constant icing, Elevation to reduce swelling helps as well.
take it like a man, you didnt break anything. you just stretched ligaments and now they are just swollen.

youre gonna feel like shit for 2-3 days but youll get back to walking in no time.

lemme know if anything works out.
the more you sprain your ankle, the less it hurts and the faster you recover :laugh:

its swollen today and now i cant even walk on it. going to take the meds like people said and ice it. rolled it very similar to meatcakeman, was running very fast covering someone in a football game and stepped inwards on the top of my foot in a sharp turn. hopefully no bones are snapped. that would suck as im uninsured.

have to work today too, bleh....
