Fucking, fuckity fuck.
Looks like my little hiking adventure has come to a close, I don't have money or time(because of money) to take the time off to heal this injury. 1,400 miles, I made it half way through New York, hiked 20 miles in grave pain and couldn't take it anymore. I had my brother come get me off the trail and made the difficult decision that it was time to go home. Flying back to Omaha, NE this afternoon.
Great times, great experience. Have a lot on my mind but not much to say, pretty dissapointed right now. Plenty of pictures and stories later I suppose.

So you walked from Omaha to New York?

Hey man, that's a big accomplishment. Don't be down about it.

New York is not Maine, which means I failed to meet an important goal. My attitude will improve later, now I sulk.
It is nice chunk of mileage, especially for someone with very little experience. I'm going to go hike Glacier as soon as this heals now, get a little work in and hike some real mountains, instead of these foothills. Blah, it was fun but I'm not going to get right over this and feel happy and giddy about my hike just yet.

That sucks man. But at least you made it as far as you did. That's quite the fucking accomplishment! Plus you can always go back later and continue on where you left off.
I bet it'll be weird going back to 'normal' society life after the trail.

Feeling a little better about the entire thing right now. I'm back in Iowa, I have my canoe strapped to my vehicle, a case of beer, a few steaks(haven't had one in 3 months), a bag of sweet corn and some potatos and my fishing gear. I'm going to head out for a few days, sleep on sand bars and spend a little more time in communion with nature.
Having this luxuries makes it a lot easier to be home. I don't have to work for another week atleast. I really have a lot I want to write out about my trip but I really don't feel like doing it, I'm going to update my photo album here shortly but I'm not in the mood to type a whole lot right now.

Fuck it.
I'm going back out as soon as I heal up and have a grand in my bank account. Probably start SOBO from Katahdin around september 1st to knock out my last 800 miles. Going to be winter in the Whites and probably going to be ugly but I'm not quitting or giving up. I went way to far to stop now, I'll just consider this a hiatus.

Winter gear will probably add a bit more weight to your pack though won't it?

My base wieght was down to 13lbs when I left the trail. I'm guessing I'll add 4 lbs with my heavier sleeping bag, poly-pro tops and bottoms, hat, gloves ect..

I ate that cap my last day out there, I didn't think I'd feel a thing, that tiny little thing. It was pretty good though, saddest trip of my life though, knowing I was probably coming off the trail, still really interesting looking south as far as i could off bear mountian knowing how far I had just walked.
I just found 2 hits of acid in my dresser, I wonder if it's any good? Going to find out after I have supper with my pops.
I added some photos to my album, still have a shit load more but my camera just died, I have to go get batteries. GA>NY on one set of lithium batteries in my camera is pretty damn good.

Shiek, I'm not done either, I'm going back.
How's your flood? It rained on me all 3 days I was in NJ, those photos show exactly what that place looked like, a swamp! NJ is actually a really great section of trail, would of been fun had it not been raining so damn much. Seen 3 more bears and a porcupine, one of my buddies dogs met the thing too, it wasn't pretty, mouthfull and face full of quills.

That's still to heavy! I think I can get it down to 10, so I'll never be over 20 when I'm full of food and water.
One of these days I'm going to write a good post of going ultra-light and ultra comfortable.

Good deal so what do you wiegh now? What did you start at?
Oh yeah the water came up 37 feet. Rolled right up to the base of that bridge we road over in that town Easton. It wasn't as bad as the floods we had last year, that one cost about 30,000,000 in damages. Then the year before that was even crazier! I guess its pretty normal for it to happen now n days.... Still messes up a lot though. Can't get over to Pa, cant travel roads for a long long time depending on how severe the damages are. Houses and buisnesses washing away....
But hell it makes for a clean river and new fishing holes!
Did any of the bears get your food again? How were the blue berries coming along? Did the dog get medical attention? With the quills each tiney movment moves the quill deeper and deeper into the flesh. If left in, the quill would work its way though right out the otherside as long as bone isn't blocking its way. The barbs are nasty!

I started at 145 lbs and got down to 132 at my lowest point. I had a bought with a flu but 5 days before I was at my lowest. I usually hovered around 140 give or take a few. I lost a lot of waistline but put most of it back in wieght with leg muscles.
