I am talking about early American cockfighting, in which spurs or other weapons were not used during battle.

I don't really have an opinion either way. There are chickens being cultivated in this country in tiny cages, pumped with fucked up chemicals until they are big enough to be slaughtered... yet I still eat KFC and Popeye's anyway. That shit's delicious.

I figure, I would be hipocritical if I went to a cockfight and didn't place my money on the one who looks like the biggest bad ass.

i think its terrible. training and animal for violence is just wrong. I think its awful.

Cockfighting is different, no one eats the dead rooster after it has been killed. Waste of resources.

Who in the hell has time to make a collection of videos and pay people to see such things.

Not that hard to figure out. Chicken is delicious, therefore I will still eat it, regardless if they are cared for like shit. I don't get the "Animals should be treated right even though the whole reason they're being raised is to be killed and eaten" way of thinking.

Suffering?  In my opinion, those chickens are the gladiators of their species.  Honorable beings who go out with pride and dignity in the heat of battle... and also pay some people's rent in the process.  :grin:

The ones who get eaten just spend their days caged up and burned to death.  These guys go out fighting.  If I was a chicken, I would prefer to be a cockfighter.  But that's just me.

Okay, you want my non sarcastic opinion on the matter? Cockfighting is a sport in cultures that are more barbaric than the American dream. While, I would never participate in the act of training a rooster for a fight, I will not look down on a culture that just so happens to not idolize creatures whose sole use in society is human consumption and are basically nervous systems with wings with brains the size of one of my testicles.

There are cockfights in the keys, which has a pretty big latin subculture, and they're really not filled with "evil" people. Just people of a different cultural background who look at it as a form of entertainment, stocked with a full bar and some damn good food.

It's not a big deal. It's not like training dogs to fight. Dogs are the closest things to human beings, societally respected that is. However, in certain cultures, dogs are eaten like chickens. So, it's really hard to determine the level of "cruelty" involved. It's all cultural.

It just seems slightly hypocritical to complain about a chicken's living condition when it's ultimate demise is to be slaughtered anyway. You don't think getting slaughtered is suffering?

All I can say is if I was a chicken and I had a choice between living on a decent farm and being slaughtered and living in a horrible factory farm and being slaughtered, I'd choose the decent farm.

yah the sad thing is people just can't comprehend the fact that just because we label something a "animal" or "insect" its instintly has NOTHING in common with us.
