Re: Customers Demand Dell Offer XP Again Instead Of Vista [Re: HELLA_TIGHT]

I tend to agree. With the exception of one easily-solved problem that SP2 caused with regards to filesharing, I think modern XP is a pretty great operating system with a small and acceptable list of shortcomings.

I get a lot of bugs here and there, but those are probably due to my hodgepodge of odd software and my aging motherboard mounted inside of a case that is prone to get a bit too hot inside.

I'm saving up about $800 to buy an extremely nice new computer (I have a relation who can get me parts for just %5 above what the retailer buys it for), and I have no intention of using Vista on it. If I can manage to wade through the hassle, I'll be installing XP pro.

What's the problem with file sharing?

It limits the number of half-open connections, so you need to modify that setting to increase the maximum, otherwise it will limit you to a number of connections that slows or halts your ability to find/download files.

The intent was to limit a virus' ability to download additional files, to slow down the process of infection.. but it was a pain in the ass to p2p users, whom Microsoft doesn't give a damn about.

yeah, but that problem is like a 10 second fix...including downloading the program to change it...

Correct, which is why I said it's a minor problem.
