ANY TABLA PLAYERS OUT THERE I NEED HELP!!!
    #6838183 -

Well I just got my tabla set today and I can't stop playing. However, i've noticed that the dayan has a raspy sound to it whenever I do any bols that resonate, in particular open hits on it (still learning vocabular, so I can't be too specific, sorry). Will this go away, is it from improper tuning, or what is it?

Thanks and if you have any advice or videos to watch let me know.

If you hit it to hard it will sound bad. There should be a N on the edge of it. Make it face towards you. Put your finger on the edge of the membrane and strike the edge of the drum with the other hand. While countinousely striking mover your finger around the edge of the membrane in a circle. Iff the tuning changes then it is out of tune. If its raspy and it turns to be out of tune, then youll have to tighten the straps. Its very easy.
When i got my drum there was only one strap going over the pegs, and now i have two going over them. Simply take one of the straps that arent going over the peg and pry or lift them up over onto the peg. Make sure it is done SYMETRICALlY!
Tablas are wierd as hell not only because the membrane produce crazy
sounds but they have poles on them(north south east west). Thats why theres an N on them.

Where did you buy the tablas? who's the maker?
