How do we get gold? Is it created, grown, or is it just there? Conservation of matter???

I was told that gold on quarts is worth much more then the gold by itself, this is because it is shown in it's natural state of development. I am not positive but i have heard that gold grows on quarts. I am most concerned because gold is an element, the building blocks of everything we know that exists. Elements to my knowledge are the most basic form of matter, and the smallest building block we know of that matter is comprised of. The very first laws of chemistry i have learned is the basic conservation of matter. This law states that matter cannot be created or destroyed. If this is true then how is gold grown or created by mother nature?

I have seen pictures of gold veins trapped inside quarts. Does anyone know anything about this, or could possibly be helpful in some way?

I am talking about elements. AU is gold when you look at the periodic table of elements in any chemistry book. I am talking about the gold atom.

I am talking to anyone out there with some sort of education, not a drinking problem.

Anyway, to get gold, you dig it out of the ground. Read:

I believe you refer to Columnar quartz. It (the quartz) grows up from the surface and contains sheets of gold grains, making clear quartz with gold veins -  it is very pricy,and has a big value in magical circles. I own a quater size piece, and it was cheap , bought it in a small shop in the village. Wore it for a while, and a few jewlery merchants commented on the clarity of it. Its one of my nicer pieces.

It doesn't grow in the ground, thats where it occurs naturally. The stuff you see in jewelry stores has just been separated from the rock(or quartz) that surrounded it.

There's no way to create gold from something else by simple chemical means. However, it could be isolated from a molecule containing gold atoms. Is this even what's being talked about?

I think the scientific sources that provide the basis for your post are so outdated that its sort of amusing. Elements are types of atoms that are defined by the amount of protons in its nucleus - that definition right there should demonstrate that an element is not the "smallest building block of matter". This type of thought is outdated by at least one century. :wink:

Particles such as protons and electrons are not the smallest building block of matter, either. Quantam physics will provide a glimpse into worlds beyond that.

At least you are asking questions and seeking to understand! :thumbup:
