i just read the interview in the phish companion about the rombus and creating your own myths. it got me thinking, since this is the time of year when ours is preformed, if anyone else has these kind of traditions?
ours is bear hill, i am 27 and i have a bro 18, and a sis 16.
ours goes like this: 6 or 7 years ago we decided on a whim to climb a very steep hill beside a creek. once on top i had wondered off a bit and saw a strange shadow in the shape of a bear. just for kicks as my sibs were quite young at the time i yelled BEAR !! and started running for the hills, they freaked for a sec and then got to their senses and knew i was just jerking them around. ever since that hill has been named bear hill by us and we climb it every year between thanksgiving and new years.
many traditions have come out of our annual climb, my brother always carries a piece of cornbread which we all share at the top, my sister carries a rock which is placed in a tree so that the tree will grow around and merge with the rock, and i always carry a penny from the year in which we climb and embed it into an electric pole at the top.
it has become a great way as we grow older to come together and proclaim our unity as siblings. it always provides its unique challanges and i always look foward to it.
