So, the other day
    #6778458 -

I was at the Marina on some boat business.
They had a scratch & dent sale on new some items.

110 volt marine water heater.
About the size of a small microwave.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
The spores in my blood started tingling.
They whispered in my ear, :mushroom2:this could be used:mushroom2:

Pondering it, I realize the spores were right.
A couple of (dead) 24 cubic ft freezers.
(free from appliance repair places)

Pull out the compressors & plumb the compressor lines.
To run HOT water through them.
A little plumbing, a small low volume recirculation pump.
And, you have the grand-daddy pasteurization set-up.

Heat the inside of each to 170F.
Fill with plastic bags, pre-hydrated holding 8 quarts each.
Is that crazy, or what.

A good plan for how to pasteurize will never pass your eyes.

Da pump....
Magnetic drive & whisper quite.

Called around to refrigeration/appliance repair/sales places.
Found 1 big one (free), for hauling away.
Still looking for a second one.

I hope you all realize;
Given the low heat, it will take 24/30 hours.
To get bags up to & maintaining 170F.
But, hey whats a few days.

LOL, in the dead of the winter.
(in an unheated shop, or garage)
These would also make great incubators.
Since, you can adjust the circulating water temperature.

I might also add, small marine or RV water heaters are not cheap.
Good quality pumps are not cheap, either.

One should also have the ability to pressure test the system.
To insure lines in the freezers have no leaks.

The object here is to have both pasteurized substrate.
As well as casing mix, on hand, on demand.
Just open the door, remove a bag (or many).
Cool to room temperature & use.

No fuss, no muss, no mess.

One little needle prick  with a loaded spore syringe.
And, the spores rule you forever.

It's just dedication to the hobby.
And, an innovative mind.
Plus, having the time/funds to tinker.

What I'm building is far cheaper & way bigger than:
A LAB TYPE WATER JACKETED INCUBATOR

New, these are like $6 grand.

Thanks for the warning, actually it's been twice now I have stuck myself with those lovely 18 guage needles. Anyone else bleed like a stuck pig before? Yes the brain will operate for the mushrooms when needbe but not for you, your mind pumps out myco-knowledge 24/7.

43 Days After Post:

I had a idea last year about using a Instant/Tankless Water Heater.  Hook it up to a 50 Gallon drum w/ on off valve and drain.  But I can't find one that puts out at least 180F water. Or I am not looking hard enough.

Agar, great idea! Not knowing certain items exist really cramps a poor mans innovation  --> ME

Whats the Max Temp output on that Heater?
Keep us updated on this will ya?

In reference to the freezer idea, what would be wrong in using an electric heater in the bottom of the freezer on the inside and monitor with a temp sensor? PM me please
