Anyone know about guitar effects pedals?

I'm after a distortion pedal but have been told to get a good make to get a good sound (true?).

Problem is I don't know which makes are good! Can anybody recomend a good distortion pedal.

Also, If I buy an effects pedal (seen one called a zoom g3, any good?) will that be a better idea as it will have lots of effects as well as distortion.

Its for home use not professional but I still want something decent!

Depends what type of distortion.. also how many effects you want. And how much you are willing to spend.

If you just want a simple distortion pedal, and nothing more.. I'd go for the tried and true boss Metal Zone, or regular distortion pedal. ~$80
Will take as much abuse as you can dish out, and last for a very long time.
Though.. there are a million different distortion pedals to choose from nowadays, I just have limited experience with them. Used a metal zone for 5 years though.

If you want a plethora of cool ass effects and customizable settings and built in wah pedal, etc.. Line 6 Pod XT all the way. ~$400
These things are the fucking shit. You got about 50 different effects to choose from. 8 pedals, and a wah pedal. You set each pedal to a different effect, or a combination of effects, adjust the effects.. and let it go.

.. also.. the zoom is an overpriced piece of plastic

This is true... but the sound also highly depends on the guitar.. the amp... and the fingers playing the instrument. All factors play into the overall sound.

I'm gonna have to save for that kick ass effects pedal but in the mean time I will probably buy a boss distortion pedal so I can rock it out :headbanger:

You'l be a better player without pedals

all my friends who got into pedals now suck if they dont have them

dont get caught up into the effects craze

If it's just for home use mostly anything will be ok.

I personally only use Foxrox pedals, there's no better quality out there, except for Peter Cornish's pedalboards, but it it's certainly expensive and really only useful for more pro oriented players.

I can recommend analogman.com for every pedal need tho, those guys have the best service I've found yet.
