Being vaporized in less than 1/1.000 of a second by a completely unexpected meteor strike or nuclear wearhead actually is one of my preferred ways to go. (except, ofcourse, that it will take other people with it) Going from completely alive to fully disintegrated in less than a millimeter of the blink of an eye, and the complete absence of suffering or even awareness of transition sounds appealing to me.

Unfortunately the vast majority of people who die by a nuke die a slow and agonized death, and the bigger a warhead is above say 25 kilotons, the higher the percentage of people that suffer inhumanly.
Past the megaton, just about everybody affected will be hideously burned rather than killed because blast diminishes fast but heat travels far.

I don't think the russians and americans will flush their silos, and that's what you need for a global thermonuclear war on an apocalyptic scale. What I see as far more realistic is that the USA will start using tactical nukes against hard targets well before 2020.
Just like in world war two, America will probably be the first to use nuclear weapons in world war three.

Personally I think the most epic of all REAL nuclear videos is this one, of a Chinese nuclear test:





The desperately futile fire department drills in the light of several cubic miles of nuclear fire, soldiers on horseback storming at the mushroom cloud, swords drawn, infantry wearing gas masks and shooting Kalashnikov's in the radioactive mist.. Epic proof that nuclear devices are too big for this earth, and should be out in space defending us from asteroids rather than hang over our heads in political threat.

LoL, that's certainly not a statement one hears everyday. In fact, I didn't know one could develop a "favorite" way to die. But if I had to choose, I think I would pick for that one too!
