people can believe what they want, and they shouldn't have to be judged for it on the shroomery....
in my opinion at least

In case you didn't notice, Television is full of sci-fi and fantasy shows that would have us believe the exact same unfounded spiritual alien history lessons that you're so fond of.

Negativity is part of life, and so far I haven't exactly had a view to defend, just an easy one to pick apart.

Oh thank you thank you thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to hear! I'm so shallow.

btw, WTF? You completely avoided the point I made - which was that your world perspective could be the next Star Trek episode.

Hey Rahie, are you at all familiar with evolution? Or any of the advances in biology since the Renaissance?

I feel really mean when I post in the pub. I'm glad you understand though. =] My tactics for dismantling craziness are well-intended, but it's easy to get frustrated with people who avoid logic...

Yes, indeed I am.
While I agree with some of it, it doesn't explain everything.

It explains all the things that you falsely attribute to aliens.

I didn't avoid it. Sci Fi has a channel, but really alien related shit is few and far between on tv. I was more pointing out if fox news didn't tell you it was true you would never except it.

now I believe in evolution, natural selection and all that stuff...and it seems like a lot of you guys do as well.
now the next question is do you believe that there is reason/meaning/purpose/order what ever you want to call it, or do you think life evolved by mere chance?

I believe the former

A1) I don't watch Television. There's one in my house, and the only time it's on is when my roommate gets back from Blockbuster.

B2) Fox News, while full of crap, is far more truthful and believable (hey - sometimes they AREN'T lying) than a story about ancient aliens that plopped us here. I would be just as likely to dismiss such a story coming from Fox News as I would hearing it from you.

I agree with you there. I don't think that fossil record does anything to contradict the idea that there is purpose to the universe. It does, however, indicate common descent, which completely debunks Rahie's ludicrous hypothesis.

I honestly believe there's SOME sort of meaning, but I have a feeling that the grand scheme is nothing that immediately concerns us as a society of mammals on a rock. If you must, I believe that the universe is slowly expanding/contracting/breathing*, and that it will continue to do so long after the sun has burnt out and humans blow themselves up, with no regard for our well-being.

*I have my reasons for believing this - they are based in science. Oscillating Universe, FTW

but does it really?
I don't think he ment to say that aliens just plopped us humans on earth
I kind of took it as a higher/superior intelligence started life on this planet, which means that common decent is still valid, its just the origins of life
this may make no sense and I may be totally off from what rahie was thinking

So since you disagree it makes it ludicrous.....

He said:

Quote:
Earth is filled with living art made by alien genetic artist. The artist would take a habitat and make perfect creatures to suit that environment. They would also use genes from some of the creatures from home planet and match them up as good as possible. So earth is like a galactic pool of all kinds of god's creatures.

This indicates that he believes all the creatures in a given environment were created simultaneously or brought over from another planet. This is incompatible with the fossil record, which shows creatures evolving alongside one another to adapt to their environment. His hypothesis is completely incompatible with common descent.

No, the fact that it has no bearing on reality makes it ludicrous.
