I remember having a conversation with him about being a blackout drunk, and how alcohol affects both of us. I hope he quits drinking if this is the way things are.

He told us that he was an alcoholic. Deep down I know he is a good guy and means well. But alcohol makes the best of us do horrible things, I know from personal experience.

he definitely has deep seeded mental problems, and is very emotional about shit...
he used to treat all of his friends like girlfriends.. if you would make plans to hang out and then couldn't follow through he would call a bunch of times to harass you and then cry about it...

Yes it is, but you can't deny that people do things while under the influence that they would never have done sober. But it is also true that he accepts responsibility for anything he does while inebriated as soon as he decides to drink.
In my experience, if he has an addiction to alcohol then he might be unable to stop drinking and thus the responsibility is a little more out of his hands. Of course, if he refused to do rehab and continues to refuse the help of others, then he is sealing his own fate.
Despite the things he does while drunk, we need to remember who he is when he is sober and remember our compassion towards that man. Of course, as long as he is drinking he is a danger to himself and those around him.
I'm not saying one way or the other, just pointing out both sides of the argument. IMO, he needs to sit down with someone he trusts and have a heart to heart. Someone needs to help him break his cycle of self-destruction and help him get to AA or whatever else he needs. Because although I don't know him personally, it seems to me that he is unable to stop by himself.

Wow, I thought he seemed like a pretty cool guy. I guess you can never really know people from a first impression.
It's too bad you had to deal with this. Hopefully this helps him become sober.

That really sucks, but if things are that bad, you should only put up with so much. Hard to imagine him being like that. Traveling with you guys was fun. He seemed cool to me.
