Fractional sterilization, any one have experience?
    #673164 - 06/11/02 01:35 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Any stories dealing with fractional sterilization? I'm thinking about trying to grow some cambos using rye sterilized in this manner. I dont have the money to get a PC and this sounds like a viable alternative. Any input is welcome.

-thanks

i did it with a large 1 gallon glass fermenter of honey water in a microwave. that link to another post is good. i would leave it more than 24 hours between blasts to give the nasties more of a chance to start to grow. you are meant to incubate the jars in between also. the theory is all the nasty spores get a chance to germinate and then you nuke them.
i also want to try it with rye on a small scale first. i have a 25 litre beer masher (tub with a heating element) which i could fit lots of jars in if my small scale works it could be a good bulk method for me
