It can happen, and from the looks of that picture it doesn't look good. You could try to scrape that layer off, isolate the cake and see if it will grow anything. Blue grey fuzz, sounds like contams for sure.

My, "grey-blue fuzz", ended up being penicilin, so atleast if you are sick you can eat the cake. Me I am allergic to it, so I would die it I ate it, sorry bout that, sounds bad.

Back up with the camera you cant see anything. On my first contam jars it was spider-mold it will look like a gross non-mycilial spiderweb and there will probobly be some nasty green stuff (sorry for all the technical terms).
