Honestly I'm surprised they need a warrant to enter your dorm room. I was always under the impression you could tell RAs or whatever they can't come in, but if they show up with cops you don't really have a choice. I can't remember how it went, but really, I'm surprised they couldn't just walk in.

And if they showed up looking for a meth lab, they would have shown up with a warrant if they could. So that means they couldn't acquire a warrant then, and unless you start buying things to make meth, they won't be able to in the future, so I wouldn't worry about it. But to be safe why not just keep illegal shit out of your room for a while and then if they do show up, it won't matter. It's really not a big deal, you shouldn't need to ask for advice on this.

How long does it take to get a search warrant? If they got a warrant, would it most likely be just for the room or for my car as well?

they can get a warrant for either, depending on what their probable cause is. they can usually obtain a warrant in less than 20 minutes.

The reason they ASK to search your room is because they don't have a warrant and don't have enough evidence to get one. They are hoping you'll cave and let them search. If they were serious about getting a warrant, one of the officers would probably have stuck around your building or floor to make sure you don't haul out backpacks full of drugs or equipment whilst their partner goes to a judge and makes a case for why he needs a warrant.

You made a good choice by standing firm and saying NO.

Instead of stashing your shit in your car, you should give it to a buddy on another floor for safekeeping until you're sure they won't be back.

Yeah, it's my impression that the police can force your landlord (if you live in an apartment) or your RA (if you live in a dorm) to open up your place if you refuse to let them enter. They were probably just bluffing to scare you (it worked!) and won't be back. I wouldn't worry about this too much.

I was also under the impression that on campus you had no rights. Think of this as a good thing.

Also, like everyone else mentioned -- If they could get a warrant, they would have gotten it already.

Cops dont tell people they are coming before they make drug busts, giving them time to clean up.

They didnt have shit, and were hoping to exploit your ignorance and fear in order for them to violate your rights.

You did everything the way you should have, except moving things to your car. Automobiles are like 10,000 times more insecure than your home. Most buss come from cars, so id move that shit when you get back from spring break...

Hopefully your meth lab didnt blow up while you were gone
