First mushroom find of the season!

Other than polypores, today on a hike i thought i saw what was a piece of red plastic buried under some leaves so i went to pick it up.

And to my pleasant surprise I found a cool cup fungi! :laugh: <3



Very exciting indeed!

Ah, finally. At long last, spring is here! I can't wait for the morels <3

Some people say that those cup fungi come out a week or two before morels. Cool find!

Those Scarlet Cups, Sarcoscypha coccinea, are the first to come up every year. I'm going hiking next week so i am very happy to hear they are out in Ohio. Morels are not to far off. :smile:

Cool! I'm about to start hunting next weekend. Nice weather and lots of rain :smile:

Unfortunately in Western Ohio I haven't found or heard reports of that many interesting mushrooms.

Awesome jrnny!!!! I went hunting today found a bunch of interesting spine fungi's and found some enoki growing out of some birch stumps thats a first for me,. never seen em popping up from birch. Anyway cool pics.

I'm still waiting to find my first spring mushrooms up here in NE Ohio.  Hopefully it'll warm up enough next week so they'll start popping!  I expect to find inky caps and some jelly fungi mainly because of the really wet springs we get  up here.

Here's a pic of some scarlet cups I found last spring in SW Ohio.  They are some of the most beautiful fungi I've seen.


Have a great time hunting with shroomydan again, and be sure to post the pics.

That is a lovely find! hopefully within the next week Ill be able to go North in this desert and do a little soul searching as well, I always find some wonderful fungi near the Rim so hopefully Ill have some pictures to share :heart:
