Please help! Need advice on important police issue

Ok, so the police just stopped by my dorm room asking if we had a meth lab in the room (which we don't). They asked if they could search around and I told them no, and they said they may or may not be back with a warrant.

The only thing in my room was some weed and some pipes and such, and I've since moved those things out to my car. My question is: How long does it take to get a search warrant? If they got a warrant, would it most likely be just for the room or for my car as well? I'm real worried about it because they've looked into this enough to know my class schedule (asked me about my chemistry class), so they probably know my car too. Either way I will be getting out of town tonight ASAP, but should I be real worried about my car?

they owned you man, the back with warrent shit was just to scare you if they could get a warrent they would have gotten it the first time so they could catch you red handed. its entirely possible they could come back thow, they could have just been scopin you out to see if you fit the profile

at any rate im sure they knew your car, and watched you take your shit to it, so they are searching it as we speak....running will only make you look quilty...they have your name man...your in college lol wtf is runnign going to do

I don't know how much time it take, not long I imagine... but if you said no to them, they might doubt you have something to hide and they shure know if you do that you will hide it, they might come back one time with a warrant when you won't think about it anymore, watch out

if you don't have a meth lab then have someone hold your illegal goods and raise hell if they come back and search only to find nothing.

In a situation like this, you have to ask yourself 'why would they think i have a meth lab in my dorm room?'

Worst case: you get popped for the pipe and weed.

Best case: nothing happens, life goes on.

But really, did you make some enemies or something? Or do you guys just look like hardcore meth heads? Your not stealing shit from chem class or anything like that, right?

I'm not running, I'm going home for spring break lol. It's quite a walk to my car and I waited awhile to leave and watched for cops. Plus, the same cops went and ransacked somebody else's room after they talked to me. I'm just worried about them going to my car later with a warrant and dogs and such.

Guys, I really don't have a meth lab. I don't do meth. I've never possessed meth. I'm a big pothead. No speed freak.

Anyways, I was pretty surprised when they came down and aparently it's because there was a report of an ether smell in the hall. Apparently they ONLY stopped at our room.

I am HELLA pissed about this, because I ALSO have no fucking clue why they stopped at my room accusing us of having a meth lab. When the cop asked me about it I laughed and said no. I don't plan on ever doing meth.

It sounds like nobody in the dorm call (RA's, hall director etc) knows what the fuck is going on, and we can't get anybody to answer any questions for us. What I don't understand is WHY the police would come to our room ONLY. I have a completely clean criminal record and we've never gotten in trouble in the dorms before.

None of the RA's here like us, but nobody here knows anything about the situation.

something still seems off on this

sounds like someone thought you looked like a pothead/methhead and called the cops to find out aka discrimination

the only thing cops could think of was to say they "smelled" something to scope you out

i would be bitchin and callin reporters....firstly however i would take a tape recorder and asking everyone in your hall for a statement...and have them smell the hall too

I don't know about that.
A cop can't say he smelled marijuana and then smash my door down.
I'm not too sure that is considered probable cause.

sure it is, a car is your personaly property just as much as your home i think, so if he smells or suspects a substance he can search you and the room your in

A tape recorder isn't a bad idea...I should get one of those and use it every time I talk to the hall director and police and shit.

I've gotten everything out of my car and into a buddy's, so I think I should be good. My car is parked off-campus now, too.

My roomate and I have been talking to the people that work here in the dorms now for awhile and they are saying it was "a mistake by (the police), and we had nothing to do with it". There is DEFINITELY some shadier bullshit going down here than that, though. Somebody tried to fuck with us and fucked it up, and I don't plan on dropping this shit till I find out. We've got some appointments tomorrow to talk with some people, but if nothing comes of it I will get some reporters and maybe a lawyer involved.
