tin foil

Finally decided to get back to growing after a few years away. I must be rusty because I just realized that I forgot to put tin foil on top of the jars that are right now about half way thru PCing. I'm cooking birdseed in quart jars with polyfill stuck thru the lids. How tragic is this?

weigh it to see if the water ratio has changed. it's not to bad if you had some water dripped into it, as all the water would be sterilized. But you might want to change the polyfil since it's wet and the contams might be able to grow through it into your substrate.

Not the end of the worl, everyone has there little screw ups, take it lightly and if you see the water ratio is off to much... well, there's always restarting.

I did the exact same thing with the last 6 pints of birdseed that I did. Like you, I was worried as hell, but I'm also glad to report that I had no problems at all... Those pints colonized well and without contams even with VERY vigorous shaking and MUCH contact with the inside polyfil, all turned out well...

Finished PCing and waited for the pressure to come down. I opened the cooker and shook the bejesus out of each jar. Looks like no harm done. I put them back in the cooker to cool down and I'm just going to procede as normal and see what happens.
