putting mpeg, wmv, avi formats to DVD
    #6655723 -

I received Nero, Power Producer 2 in a bundle pack when I got my DVD burner, but the software won't seem to not let me put any of these formats onto a DVD. I also have Roxio.  It was a sigh of relief when it started to burn but my happiness was short lived.  The process took over two hours to burn a stand-up comedy performance(avi format).  I was away from the computer for these hours and upon my return the DVD was finished but with an error message. I know it took over two hours because I checked the progress periodically.  Two hours is way too long considering I have USB 2.0 and the AC Adapter was plugged in

The finished DVD won't play at all.  I'm assuming I need to also get a conversion tool.  Anyone know a good one that will not suffer much quality loss?  Anyone have experience with putting these types of formats to DVD format?  The dvd burner works fine for making copies, no problems at all. Its the software that really irks me.:justdontknow:

I dont know if this will help, but I was experiencing the exact same problem with video I downloaded using torrents in a .vob format. I too have Roxio 9 and Nero 7. One day; probably out of a fit of frustration, I right clicked on one of the folders, and in the menu there is the option of "burn with disk copier", a Roxio module. I proceeded to do just that and it worked, no conversions necessary. The actual folder was called Video_TS within the actual show directory I was attempting to burn.

OK, I just burned an avi to DVD using Roxio. Go to the Roxio menu, open Video, then My DVD. All you have to do is add the video file to the project, choose whatever menu you want and burn.
GL!

Yeah, I bought a burner a while ago also..

I burned movies that were avi to DVD using nerovision. That works, (well it locks up actually with my newest setup) but it will take a really long time to burn to DVD.

This will make a DVD playable by most players. A lot of times avi's are encoded in "PAL" format, not our region (I think you're in the US) You have to be careful when Nero asks you if this is ok, to burn in pal (you want NTSC)

So it all depends on your computer, it takes me about an hour and a half to encode and burn a 2 hour movie to dvd. Burning a data DVD should take like 5 min. That's why I wound up buying a cheap DVD player that can handle divx format. Then you can cram an entire DVD full and play it on your tv

Thank you Booooom and Gobblin.  I will try Roxio again at a later time using that algorithm.  I don't have the Nerovision software, Boooom.  Only Nero Express.

I may look into a crack for some type of encoder that will convert the actual file.

I'm open for any other suggestions as well. Suggestions? New methods?

Okay, Roxio successfully burnt two stand-up segments, one in avi an the other was wmv on a DVD+R. It took over an hour and a half but at least it did the job. The quality was decent. I'm going to use this method for a while then look into a different software. Thanks again guys, I appreciate it.
