Ok what's the lowdown on avi and mov files?
    #1920611 - 09/16/03 05:21 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I've downloaded the same damn music video in two different formats, and my Windows media player and real player won't play either one of them. I'm getting audio, but no video. I thought Windows media supported avi and mov files. Btw, I hate this program, what is a good alternate program if any?

There are many alternatives available, the reason you're only getting audio is because you don't have the required codec to playback the video. They are basically just different types of encoding, media player should attempt to find one (...usually fails) but you should download a codec pack. There a loads out there such as the ACE and KLite packs....

Check http://avicodec.duby.info/ to see what codecs you need.

I highly rate Media player classic. It'll play just about anything you have the codecs for, including quicktime and realplayer.

The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

I use a player called MV2 player and it works better than anything else I've tried. It's a striped down 3rd party program, so it's fast as hell and so easy to use. No added bullshit that you don't need.
