Well I just had the trip of my life..
It was quite frightening.. it all started when I put shpongle on.. that first song on their new album weirded me out soo much.. I was sitting in the car listening, and the sound encompassed me then I got an intense pain in my head.. kinda like the sound was pushing on all sides of my head I guess - anyone ever had this happen to them? and so began my scary ride through the deathly forests of wonderland..

I only took 15 grams of subaeringosa.. these things are soooo damned potent. I had intense moments of fear.. the visuals were soo damned intense.. I took a xanax in the hope that it would calm me down but it only made things worse. I got intense primal fear about what the xanax was doing to my brain.. how it worked. I felt like I was going to snap. I wanted to just lie down and go to sleep.. but as you all know, when you're tripping and you close your eyes everything's still there, clear as day. My visuals are pretty much summed up by that Alice in Wonderland game.. skulls, dark woods, evil grins.. scary

Anyway.. this one song on the ministry of sound chillout session 2 I think.. where this guy goes 'hey, not me, messin with your own reality!' saved me from an ultra-scary bad trip. Pulled me out of it.. and I reached that happy chillin clarity of mind state
Anyhoo.. I found my previous trips with a syrian rue combo much more calm and pleasurable.. does syrian rue actually put a different edge on the trip?

I'm not sure if I want to trip again after that experience.. can anyone help persuade me otherwise? I mean I love tripping, but that was just TOO weird and scary.. but I've now got 40grams dry of some damned potent babies heeh. *sigh* torn I am.

I've had 80% bad, uncomfortable or frightening trips, and 20% pure bliss. But the reason I still trip is because no matter how bad a trip goes, I always learn something from it and enjoy it in the end.

I understand about the "grins", I often see really devilish grins that I associate with cheschire cats on bad trips. It's as if they are saying "I know something that you don't." Really unnerving. On good trips they can be funny grins, though.

If you want to trip again go for a lower dose when you feel really relaxed. I never dose above 2 -2.5 grams anymore because of what I've seen from 3.5 g to 7g. I know what's there, and I know I can't mentally handle it, so I just take lower doses. I don't need to completely lose my mind to have a fun trip ... far enough to be gone, but not too far to where I question whether there's a crisis and whether I can deal with it. I take trips kind of like taking hikes. If you take the easy path every time(good trip), you will only get the minimum "effects" out of it and you won't know what else there is. If you take a harder path ("bad" trip) then you will experience the bad but in the end you will get more out of it. I don't know if that made any sense, but that's how I see it.

Bad trips give me more inspiration for my art anyway

Don't worry about it. Everyone has bad trips now and then. That was a pretty high dose for your very first trip, lower it a little and see how it goes.

I see.. I'm used to having good trips.. (except for that time when I had an intense 2 hour long panic attack heh).. but yea I know what you mean regarding learning from bad trips..

heh.. here's the weird thing.. now that I think about it - the evil grins and images didn't scare me. I can't really figure out why I was scared at all.. I mean my visions didn't frighten me - I just felt frightened. I think it was that feeling of dissasociation that you get on higher dose trips - where you question if you're going to stay concious - know what I mean? That's what scared me the most come to think of it.. hmm :/ Actually wait no! Now I remember!! After the shpongle song surrounded my head and felt like it was going to be crushed I, for the rest of my trip, feared anything similar happening.. I also feared something weird happening inside my visions.. inside my mind - it felt as if, if I wanted, I could go to a higher level or higher plane - but I was afraid.. afraid of what I would feel. Have you ever experienced anything like that? This fear drove me to temporary insanity.

Well what I really trip for is the post-peak mental clarity. If I could skip the peak altogether I think I'd be happier.. I just love that clear state of mind you get on the comedown.. it's great for intellectual conversation and for deep thought.

Sorry.. I didn't make it clear - that wasn't my first trip.. it was like my.. umm *woo* I lost count now
I thought that dose was appropriate because last time we dosed on 25grams fresh and I handled it quite well.. maybe they were more potent this time (smaller shrooms) hmm..
Anyhow I think I'll try a little of 0.5grams dry of these babies and see how we go.

I think I can relate to that
for me it's just a matter of turning the volume down. My listening level on shrooms is way lower than without. On shrooms even modest listening levels can get annoying, confusing my thoughts, giving me a headache, etc. Sometimes I even think my eardrums are about to rupture while I know that the volume really is low.

I even thought about the possibility of shrooms improving my senses... when I'm on shrooms I can hear people two houses down the road for example. And sometimes my vision is so extremely clear that I can see the individual leaves from a tree that I usually can't see. Probably hallucinations, or that you actually take a while to look and listen while in normal life you block all those irrelevant noises. Still it's interesting

Hmm.. I know what you mean - but it wasn't like that. It was like something actually "happened" - know what I mean? This was soon after I first closed my eyes - I saw a sort of hyperspace plane and then this voice from the song personified itself in my visions as a sort of spirit face.. my car has a really good sound system with splits at the front, so the sound started in a surround position and gradually made its way to the center.. as it came in the face moved closer in my visions and then encompassed my head and swallowed it up, causing intense pressure heh.
I found something that could explain it though.. in the Psychedelic Experience (on erowid) it lists some of the symptoms at the onset of ego loss as being (key point, number 4):
Here is a list of commonly reported physical sensations:

1.. Bodily pressure, which the Tibetans call earth-sinking-into-water;
2.. Clammy coldness, followed by feverish heat, which the Tibetans call
water-sinking-into-fire;
3.. Body disintegrating or blown to atoms, called fire-sinking-into-air;
4.. Pressure on head and ears, which Americans call rocket-launching-into-
space;
5.. Tingling in extremities;
6.. Feelings of body melting or flowing as if wax;
7.. Nausea;
8.. Trembling or shaking, beginning in pelvic regions and spreading up
torso.

Mmm yes Perceptual changes are amazing on shrooms. You see so much more life in a scene of nature.. it's as if you're being shown how an artist perceives something rather than just a bunch of trees where you might be able to find some food in your standard human survival mode. I wish I could draw

Dose, but know your mental limits, and prepare yourself before every trip (mind&body).

I wasn't nauseous at all really.. I thought the dosage was appropriate - I really didn't want anything that high. The thing was, this was 10 grams less than what I had had the previous time. I thought it would be alright.. for some reason this trip hit me way harder (maybe they were more potent because they were smaller shrooms..) I don't know.. anyway.. I'm going to be very cautious when dosing on these babies in future

heeh.. it's really mad. make sure you get the 5:33 long version.. it's off a ministry of sound chillout album.. it's called king biscuit time - i walk the earth. now that i listen to it.. at the end when the other song starts to mix in - these chimes gave me images of a forboding danger so whenever i reached this point I'd restart the track.. I mustve listened to this song at least 15 times that night
