Does vicodin expire?

I just found a bottle of 5/500 Hydrocodone in my medicine cabinet. But the date one is to be used before 6/2002. Would it be unsafe to take it?

The most that happens is it loses a little potency. The reason they put expiration dates on them is because if you really need them after the expiration date your doctor is going to prescribe you more.

Next time do a search. I'm pretty sure this topic has been covered in ODD before.

actually , in the same way some recreational drug goes bad with time , medicine goes bad too. not necesarilly on the exp date but some medicine loose potency or mold up with too long storage. Some medicine can dangerous to take when stored too long. But medicine is diffrent just like THC is diffrent from LSD.

However, you do have a point in what you say, there is some money involved in putting expiring dates, I have no idea about the particular drug in question and its shelf life.

As long as it's kept in a cool, dry place the only difference is going to be loss in potency. There may be some type of medication that is harmful after a certain period of time, but I've never heard of such a thing, and I know that this is not the case with hydrocodone.

no hydrocodone is a diffrent story (sorry wasnt aware that viodine was same as hydrocodone, im not in usa, diffrent brand names and stuff) however i know about something that happened in zambia around 10 years ago with several people dying of expired medicine in a village when some disease broke out there (my parents works in NORAD so i was there during this time).
