slug control

are there any miracle cures for slugs? i tried vermiculite, coffee, and a tray of beer. A lot drowned in the beer, but tons of em are still eating up my poppies. Should I use slug bait? and will the leaves grow back or are they good as dead? I sprinkled a little bit of egg shell around, so well see how that goes.

Use slug/snail bait. be careful if you have cats or dogs.

Also, pouring salt on slugs is fun but not good for your soil.

I've heard good things about dichotomous(sp?) earth....

Apparently its like broken glass to the soft under-body of a slug, cuts em up real good.

A perimeter or that around the garden and around each plant is whats recommended.

Also, I've heard good things about copper.

Diatomaceous earth :thumbsup: I can be found at swimming pool shops as it is used in sand filters.

Copper works but is as bad for the soil and hence the plants as salt is.

I don't like using slug bait because you end up with a pile of snails that birds like to eat,, everything else sounds good though.

A couple of years ago i made a mini electric fence for my green house using a 9 volt square battery, strips of wood, pins and wire.
Sounds like a mad idea but it worked a treat.

Shocking slugs is great fun,, :thumbup:.

You can get snail bait house that work great, keeps pets and birds away from the bait/dead snails. You have to clean out the dead snails/slugs though.

my sister had the same problem with her weed plants. she had banana slugs which are like 5 in. long:eek: she just put a ring of sand around each plant. slugs try to cross and the sand just dries them out. works perfectly she said.

the problem is it rains. thats why the vermiculite didnt work. will the plants recover though? a couple of em have fully stripped leaves down to the stem.
