White fly control

So my salvia plants have been swarmed with whiteflies.
so far i have covered the floor with aluminium foil, used tones of different whitefly sprays (which dont work), and have burned them off manually witha lighter.
well my lighter broke yesterday, so now i need to either buy a new lighter, or find a better method.
im going to ry the yellow paper with glue on it.
but i also wanna try the soap water thing that you spray on, but i cant remember what soap to use, is any ol soap good? antibacterial Dial soap?
and lastly, what else can i do against these damn whiteflies?!?! i have no space indoors, and even when i did have some indoors the bugs found their way to them anyway...
yea so this long thread is basically asking which soap is good and what else can i do?

You can buy "insecticidal soap" at garden stores.

Found this !
Control Sadly, whitefly can be difficult to control - some people say impossible - because they have a very fast lifecycle - they can develop from egg to adult in as little as three weeks in the summer. This means that if you are using chemical pesticides to kill them (generally it is only the adult that is affected) you have to spray very regularly to control a severe outbreak. And then you have to be very vigilant to catch other outbreaks early. If you've only a few plants it is simpler to check over them regularly and squash adults and scales.
And this.
Sticky traps
Whitefly are attracted to the yellow colour of sticky traps. For best results, hang or place the cards close to the top of the plant. Doors, vents and other openings where whiteflies can enter greenhouses are other good sites to hang yellow sticky cards.
Sprays
Whitefly began showing resistance to synthetic insecticides in the 1980s. Sprays containing pyrethrum or neem give the best control for organic growers. Both the surface & the underside of the leaf need to be covered and during the summer, a spray regime every 5 days is required.
Biological Control Agents
Encarsia formosa, a small wasp, parasitizes to up to 100 immature greenhouse whitefly each. Encarsia populations prefer temperatures above 70 degrees F for development. The best time to use Encarsia is between mid-March and mid-September.
Delphastus pusillus, a small black ladybird beetle, will control both greenhouse and silverleaf whitefly. The larvae will consume up to 1000 whitefly eggs in its lifetime but will also feed on nymphs. Like Encarsia, the beetles perform best at temperatures between above 65F.
And dis.
Prevention/Control: These are resistant to most pesticides so it’s best to use organic methods, such as biological control or yellow sticky traps. Plants with yellow flowers, such as French marigolds, can be planted between vulnerable plants to encourage the pests to attack these instead of the vulnerable plants.
They sound like a right pain in the ass ! Good luck

yea man, whiteflies are a bitch...
im in the process of making some of my own sticky traps, just need to find something yellow... (and make the glue )
and im not sure i wanna spread wasps around on my balcony... haha, might scare the roommates hmm, didnt know about the black ladybugs, i let loose a bunch of normal red ladybugs but they didnt help at all... (now i have a pile of dead ladybugs in the corner of my balcony).
thanx though, ill def try the yellow trap.
and dan, the insecticidal soap, do you know if it has to be a special soap from the garden center? or are there any regular home soaps i could use? like hand soap?

We get fungus gnats alot in my house, if you find the sticky traps don't work try putting out some plates of pure orange juice.
Planting yellow flowers somewhere else in the garden sounds like a good idea too. At least to keep them off your salvia, but you don't want to be attracting them from all over
