More pics. More pinks. Here are a couple more misc pink oyster pics. I'll be adding a couple blue oyster pictures tomorrow and some other projects.

This is a jar of grain spawn that i managed to lose in a drawer for a couple months.

the invitro fruits made a nice display.

I added a layer of peat to top off the jar and put it outside to fruit.

---

Next is a large bag of grain spawn. I mixed up some rye and didnt have a chance to cook in time before bacteria took over so i just stuffed it all in a bag and sterilized it anyways. i inoculated with some colonized grain and put the bag away. Several weeks later i noticed a nasty smell in the kitchen so i searched and found my bag full of pink mycelium and sections of nasty bacteria. I put the bag outside and sliced the sides open. about a week later i had this mess of fruits.

I didnt expect that cluster to develop much farther but it did.

It was interesting how crowded they grew. By the way i did not eat any of the fruits from this bag.  :puke: I just feel bad throwing out living mycelium. Its only fair for me to let it get its spores out into the world.

---
ok last is a little project inspired by Jeremy_Davis. inoculation of a banana plant.

The banana plant died several months back. Rather than cut it down i decided to let the oysters do the job. I cut slits into the side and stuffed grain spawn into the holes. It initially fruited from the inoculation points. However the mycelium eventually did break through and fruit from various spots on the stem.

Well thats it for today.

how do they taste? stamets doesn't seem too impressed with them.

also wondering if you or anyone has any good recipes for pink or yellow oysters. I've just got a batch of yellows come up and don't know what to do with them.

i like the taste, its kind of like seafood but they are a bit tough around the stem. longer cooking seems to help with the toughness.

If you dont find a good recipe you can always just sautée them and freeze them for later. i used a few frozen ones last night. its not as good as fresh but its not at all bad either. If you do freeze them make sure you separate each mushroom and freeze them separated before bagging. If you just stuff them in a bag and freeze them youll end up with a giant clump of frozen mushrooms.

First off. My first lions mane grow.

The substrate is supplemented eucalyptus chips/dust.

They were little but they sure tasted good.

---

Next is a blue oyster grow. This is a clone from a grocery store oyster(Publix).

---

Last is my first Black Poplar grow. the substrate is supplemented eucalyptus chips/dust.

All of these mushrooms were fruited outdoors in less than optimal conditions. it has been very dry lately.

well thats it for today.

i Love the lion's mane pictures. Great job!

The substrate in the second lion's mane picture looks very dark. Is it coco fibre or pure eucalyptus sawdust/chips?

Nice work man! I love the banana tree inoculation with the pinks. It looks more successful than mine, as I actually innoc'd a fresh section of banana tree stem after it was cut.

Also for those of you who are asking, I like the taste of pinks too. I got turned off to growing them way back at a mushroom conference when a grower said "pink stinks." Little did I know it was so beautiful and easy to grow in FL. Also I've had people tell me that my pinks are some of the best mushrooms they've ever had, so not everyone dislikes them...

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Owl it is just eucalyptus. the lions mane and the black poplar loved the eucalyptus but the mulch is $5 per 2 cubic feet so i am going to experiment with cheaper alternatives.

today i am going to start several new projects using palm debris as the substrate. Besides pine, palm is the most abundant wood i have in my area. Speaking of pine, has anyone found a reliable method for fruiting neolentinus ponderosus?

Have you ever though of using cypress mulch? There's that place off highway 82 by I-75 with mountains and mountains of cypress mulch. I've never tried it, but have thought about it...

thats actually where i got this bag of eucalyptus from. The cypress mulch isn't very fine. they had a batch of samples out and the eucalyptus was chipped the finest. I think i will try the cypress though. if it proves to be worth while i can just order a truckload and pass it through my chipper to get it smaller. the eucalyptus cant be ordered in bulk.

the loose plastic is just the bag it was spawned into. i cut slits in the bag for primordia to form from but the clusters developed elsewhere. so for the second "flush" i cut the bag open and let the block sit in it. it has been fairly dry during the last week so ive been misting the blocks with a hose.

hopefully i can collect a few spore prints from that cluster. i doubt they would be clean but i'd like to start my own isolate. i have uneasy feelings about the health/vigor of store cloned mushrooms.

btw the pink oysters from the first post in this thread are on their 4th flush.
