Teen killed by mega dose of Ecstasy

HONG KONG: A 13-year-old girl died after taking almost 10 times the lethal dose of the drug Ecstasy in a Hong Kong nightclub, a report said yesterday. Cheuk Wai-yin, 13, collapsed after taking the popular party drug at a club in July last year and died in a park, the South China Morning Post reported.

An inquest into her death Wednesday heard she had the equivalent of eight to nine tablets in her blood stream and more tablets undigested in her stomach, the newspaper said. A government scientist testified she had 3.8 micrograms per millilitre of the drug. Ecstasy can already be lethal at 0.4 micrograms.

The inquest heard that she may have also taken another drug, ketamine, and painkillers at the club in Hong Kong’s Mongkok district, which she visited with a 20-year-old girlfriend on the night of her death. The case has raised fears that the booming popularity of so-called party drugs such as ketamine and Ecstasy is getting out of control among young people in the city of 6.8mn.

Despite an overall fall in drug use in the city of 6.8mn, the number of people aged under 21 using “party drugs” rose from 1,802 in 2005 to 1,980 in 2006, according to government figures released earlier this week.–DPA

The special K and Alcohol mixed with the Ectasy is what did it. Obviously its ignorance on her part and the pills still in her stomach had to be tons.

actually, the real lethal dose of ecstasy is about 1000 average ecstasy doses. MDMA is surprisingly benevolent even physically.

And the crap about people dancing all night and dying of dehydration is bullshit.. that's called meth rolls... True MDMA is very relaxing and all you really wanna do is chillll , maybe some LIGHT dancing.

Sure they tested her blood for levels of MDMA, but did they test it for levels of other drugs too?

The LD50 of MDMA in assorted rodents is around 200mg/kg to 300mg/kg (oral). With humans (oral) it is suspected to be around 15mg/kg to 20mg/kg [1]. If the girl weighed 55kg, then her lethal dosage would be around 1g.

The most common causes of death and injury with MDMA consumption are complications of malignant hyperthermia. [2]

Of course they did. Toxicology testing looks for many different potential toxins. What they found and what was reported are not always the same.

The bigger picture that you missed entirely are the increases in post mortem drug testing errors. [3]

even 100 pills are wrong. 1 g of MDMA = 6 -10 dosages. if it were 100 pills, that would mean each pill has about 10mgs and that you got ripped off :grin: also, the LD50 was for a girl that weighed about 55kg.

I assumed the 55kg... and as always, with humans, LD50's are more of a guess than anything. On the big scale, MDMA is pretty safe the same way asprin is pretty safe. It is nowhere near as dangerous as nicotine (tobacco) and alcohol, nor is it anywhere near as safe as LSD, THC (cannabis), or mushrooms.
