"Power fan abnormal!"
    #6542531 - 02/07/07 10:26 PM (17 years, 2 months ago)

Yeah, yeah, even a Geek Squad agent has some questions sometimes..  Anyway, I didn't get a change to ask any coworkers about this yet, but my computer had been giving me that error message right when it booted (before booting windows).  It's been a few years so I figured I'd replace my power supply.  I upped it to a 400, and after installation I receive that error more than ever.  The PC's running fine, it's staying cool, and it's not shutting off on me, so why the message still?  I tried messing with the BIOS but there's nothing I can really do about a power fan.  After I get the error message it always prompts me to "go to setup", and the only way for me to load windows is to enter then escape the setup... Any suggestions?

weird...i cant think of what would cause this...

maybe the RPMs have been fluctuating alot and the system detects this? i have no idea if that sort of feature is built in though.

My guess is that it is bitching about a fan other than the one in the power supply. It could be a bad translation of "Fan power abnormal" rather than "Power supply fan abnormal". It may even be bitching about a fan that you don't have in your system... a missing fan would certainly be abnormal, at least as seen by the computer.

Yeah i would certainly check the fan connectors. You may have a bent pin, or faulty fan connector/wiring.

Well I looked a little further into my BIOS and found my Power Fan settings. It was set to N/A, and the other option being "Disabled". I just chose disabled and it fixed the problem :thumbub:.
